Phillies Starters Now Have Four of Major League Baseball's Top 15 ERAs
Bob tweeted this out after the Phillies swept the Brewers on Thursday afternoon:

Total dominance from the starters. They own four of the six best ERAs in the National League.
Does it extend to the AL as well? Does the NL pitching stink or are the Phillies’ pitchers that good?
It’s a little bit of both.
Here’s the top 15 ERA list encompassing both leagues:
- Ranger Suarez: 1.70
- Luis Gil: 1.82
- Tanner Houck: 1.85
- Shota Imanaga: 1.88
- Tarik Subal: 1.97
- Seth Lugo: 2.13
- Zack Wheeler: 2.23
- Corbin Burnes: 2.26
- Javier Assad: 2.27
- Tyler Anderson: 2.37
- Cristopher Sanchez: 2.71
- Marcus Stroman: 2.73
- Aaron Nola: 2.77
- Ronel Blanco: 2.78
- Jose Berrios: 2.80
The Phillies have four of MLB’s top 15 pitchers in terms of ERA. And the only other teams with multiple starters in the top 15 are the Yankees and Cubs. For every other team, it’s an ace, and then a drop off. It makes you wonder if that’s going to bite the Dodgers in the ass at some point, because they’ve got Tyler Glasnow at 17th with a 2.93 ERA and then Yamamoto is 33rd on the list.
ESPN’s Cy Young predictor has Suarez, Nola, and Wheeler listed at 1, 2, and 3, which is insane. Can you believe it? Nola’s ERA is slightly higher than the others, but he and Wheeler both have a WHIP number of 0.97, which is excellent. That’s top 15. They’re also innings eaters and both in the top 10 for total innings pitched. Wheeler is the strikeout machine, but Nola and Suarez have the better BB9 numbers and Ranger rarely gives up homers. In an era where guys are trying to throw 100mph and take your head off, the Phillies rotation actually “pitches,” which sounds stupid, but if you watch the games, you know what I mean.
Let’s ride the wave. Ride it to London.
EDIT – Anthony found a good stat:
‘There are 74 starting pitchers in Major League Baseball who currently qualify for their league ERA title. Of those 74, there are 21 with ERAs under 3.00. Nine teams have one of those pitchers. The Yankees, Cubs, Giants and Dodgers have two each. The Phillies have four.”
