Awful Announcing ranked the MLB broadcasting booths using more than 13,000 reader votes. TMac, John Kruk, Ben Davis, and Ruben Amaro Jr. came in seventh. Crazy, right? Top 3 if you’re asking me. Turns out though that #7 is their highest ranking since AA started doing this exercise a decade ago:

7. Philadelphia Phillies – 2.85

Play-by-play: Tom McCarthy
Analysts: Ruben Amaro Jr, Ben Davis, John Kruk, Mike Schmidt

Most common grade: A (35.05% of votes)

Previous grades: 1.90 (2014), 2.33 (2016), 2.34 (2017), 2.27 (2018), 2.48 (2019), 2.48 (2023)
Previous rankings: 26 (2014), 17 (2016), 15 (2017), 19 (2018), 12 (2019), 14 (2023)

Comments: The Phillies clock in with their best-ever ranking and score, the team’s first venture into the top ten. Tom McCarthy and John Kruk work quite well together, delivering an entertaining broadcast for fans.

The Phils booth beat out the Braves, Nats, and Marlins booths. Unfortunately, the stinking Mets booth and Keith Hernandez came in first. In the NL the Phils finished behind the Mets, Giants, Padres, and Dodgers.

I don’t think anyone in Philadelphia would give up the TMac/Kruk booth for anyone ahead of them. There is no way you can replicate this kind of chemistry. Listening to the noises come out of TMac when he’s laughing at something Kruk says is one of my favorite things about Phillies baseball:

There is no one who is more entertaining with better stories than John Kruk. Best booth in the game:

The most important thing is Michael Kay finished 22nd. I can’t wait until his fragile ego gets ahold of these rankings.
