I wrote about Ruben Amaro Jr’s obvious lie earlier this week, that he used to call into WIP when he was Phillies GM under an alias and rip himself. Boy oh boy did I immediately sniff that one out. He was on The Phillies Show and Todd Zolecki immediately asked him if the story was real and RAJ puffed his chest out and doubled down. Then Jim Salisbury put his reporter hat on and asked about details and RAJ flubbed around for two minutes looking for any possible out he could find to change the subject:

I love this story. It could’ve been 2012, ’13, or maybe even ’14. Hell it could’ve been 2015 too! Why stop there? Just such an odd thing to lie about to make yourself seem cool and edgy. RAJ is the freshman in his first weekend of college who bragged about drinking a million beers in high school only to end up in a ditch the first time he and his new roommates go out. Todd Zolecki gave him the perfect out. He could’ve just said it was a radio bit and we all would’ve laughed. Who doesn’t like a good radio bit? It’s content. You gotta take everything you see or hear in the Content Wars era with a grain of salt. We’re all in a battle for views, shares, and listens. But now Rube looks like a rube in all this mess because he doesn’t remember the year, the host, the name he used, or even the manager he just got done talking to after they got their butts kicked. If you’re going to lie at least cover your tracks.

Until someone at WIP pulls the tapes, this case is closed. Ruben Amaro Jr. is a liar. Except for that time he touched Pete Rose’s hard wood:

P.S. Kyle Scott’s RAJ take continues to be one of the worst ones uttered in the history of this site and trust me there have been many:
