Georgia Tech Opened the College Football Season with an Homage to Eagles Fans
Georgia Tech upset #10 Florida State in the underwhelming city of Dublin to kick off the Week 0 college football slate on Saturday. They did it with a strategy that disgruntled Eagles fans have been calling for since the Andy Reid days. They ran the ball over and over and over again:
Is Paul Johnson still coaching this team? It’s the ghost of triple options past and it’s a beautiful work of art, that box score. The Yellow Jackets ran the ball 36 times for 190 yards and three touchdowns. 5.3 yards per carry. They only threw it 16 times for 146 yards, and the best part is that the quarterback only had one more passing attempt than rushing attempt. You go a bit further and look at some advanced stats and they had five runs of 12+ yards, two runs of 20+ yards, and a rushing success percentage of 69.4 while averaging 6.46 yards per play.
This is what Eagles fans have always wanted, a 70-30 run/pass ratio. Run the ball! Roll that Blount! If you’re a Philadelphia sports fan with no college rooting interest, your new team is the Jackets. Are you kidding me? Run the bawwwwl:
“RUN THE BALL”
