Kevin Cooney and Paul Jolovitz are two of my favorite people in Philly media. Two dudes who will talk any sport at any time, now teaming up to provide the weekend’s most entertaining matchup.

I don’t know if there was existing beef here, but Kevin is a Notre Dame fan and Jolly can’t stand the Irish. Point: Jolovitz! He’s up 1-0.

With that measly bit of context, ND lost 16-14 at home to the POWERHOUSE Northern Illinois Huskies and it set off a hilarious back and forth that resulted in a Twitter blocking (this is most of the exchange but I cut out 2-3 tweets for the sake of brevity) –

Well that escalated quickly! Who knew a Notre Dame loss would send things into such a tailspin. If Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are getting all huffy on social media, imagine what’s happening in Northeast Philly corner bars at this very moment <rimshot>.

I declare no winner in this battle, because, like I said, I appreciate both of these guys. Two grizzled vets of the scene who have come on every stupid television show and podcast I’ve ever produced. But if I had to give them both advice as a friend and a confidante, I’d tell ’em that nobody cares about Notre Dame OR Ohio State. We support the Philadelphia Eagles and the Temple Owls in this town… I think. Definitely the Eagles, maybe not the Owls, especially after they were hammered again by several touchdowns. But I dream of a cherry and white rebirth akin to the Matt Rhule era of 2015, because if we have a local team worth a shit, then Inshallah, we’ll never have to hear about the Domers or the Buckeyes ever again.
