Your Philadelphia Flyers are the biggest favorite on Monday’s NHL betting board!

Okay, look, there are five games being played on Monday night and there are a few toss-ups on the slate, but it’s still stunning to see the Flyers as a -275 favorite against the San Jose Sharks.

San Jose is tied with the Flyers for the third-lowest point total in the NHL, so you’d think the numbers would be closer to even money, but the Sharks are also on the second leg of a back-to-back.

The Sharks put a ton of energy into a 1-0 win over the New Jersey Devils Sunday night in which their top netminder, Mackenzie Blackwood, made 44 saves.

Sunday’s shutout is more of an outlier for the Sharks, which is great news for the Flyers.

The Sharks have allowed one more goal than the Flyers and they’ve let up the most shots in the entire NHL. They have allowed 538 shots. Only the Pittsburgh Penguins at 517 have given up more than 500 shots.

The Flyers have plenty of guys who love to shoot the puck, but if you’re going to bet shots on goal props on Monday night, look to the defensemen.

San Jose is one of two teams in the NHL who give up over 10 shots on goal per game to opposing defensemen. On Sunday, all six of the Devils’ D-men had multiple shots on net, led by Dougie Hamilton’s five.

Travis Sanheim is usually the only Flyers player available for shots on goal props at the sportsbooks. His current over/under is 1.5. You can ladder his SOGs up to four at FanDuel and a few other books.

Sanheim already recorded two SOGs against Florida and three SOGs versus Montreal, both of whom rank in the top five in shots allowed to defensemen.

Rasmus Ristolainen and Jamie Drysdale are the only other Flyers D-men with over 10 SOGs this season. Drysdale is on the injured reserve, so Ristolainen might be worth a look at a goal scorer prop along with Sanheim. San Jose ranks fifth in goals allowed to opposing defensemen. Sanheim’s two-goal game against Montreal came against the team with the most GA/per game versus D-men, so there’s your trend to follow.

The Sharks also give up the most goals per game to left wingers and the second-most shots per game to LWs.

Owen Tippett has 19 SOGs in the last four games and scored in two of those contests, so I expect him to play a major role on Monday night. You could combine Tippett and Sanheim’s SOGs together to get to plus-money on parlays. Tippett would be my top candidate to score with any of the D-men, led by Sanheim, second on that list.
