Barstool Philly transcribed some of Seth Joyner’s Monday morning appearance on 94 WIP:

Hang on.

Lemme break out the whole thing so that you can read it:

Joe DeCamara: “Let me ask you a question. The last 3 months, you don’t think Nick Sirianni and Kellen Moore coached around his [Jalen Hurts] deficiencies to an extent?”

Seth Joyner: “Did he look deficient yesterday?”

DeCamara: “I’m not asking that… So the answer to your question is no yesterday he didn’t look deficient, but two weeks ago he looked deficient, and three weeks ago he looked deficient.”

Joyner: “See this is the problem, and you know I love you, but I gotta say this. This is the problem that people have with some of the hosts on WIP. We don’t want to look at it from a birds eye view. When something doesn’t work we want to zero in on what the fault is instead of looking at the big picture. When you don’t ask a guy [Jalen Hurts] to do something, and you ask him to be a game manager even though you are paying him $51M… You are doing it because that is what’s best for the football team at that point of time… to put you on a 7 and 8 game win streak.

DeCamara: “But in my opinion not just because they were strong running, because Jalen was struggling.

Joyner: “I don’t buy that.”

There’s more to it, but that synopsis more or less sums it up. It’s like Jerry Seinfeld’s bizarro world. Seth Joyner asking us to look at the big picture? Seth has been the most negative guy in Philly sports media for years now. I’m old enough to remember when he was complaining about not having enough interceptions when the Eagles led the league in interceptions. Now he’s the voice of reason and calling out 94 WIP hosts for myopic Jalen Hurts takes.

Isn’t the biggest takeaway that Jalen has gotten it done in a variety of ways this season? In previous weeks, during this winning streak, he’s been a game manager, handing the ball to Saquon Barkley and throwing low-risk passes while drastically cutting down on turnovers. Then, on Sunday, he slung the ball for 290 yards through the air and two touchdowns while still running for 45 and a tush push score, all while playing with a broken finger. It was the first time he’s thrown 30+ passes since September, and with Saquon missing a portion of the second quarter, Barkley ran the ball less than 20 times for only the 6th time in 14 games. Not sure about you, but that tells me it’s much less about deficiency and much more about trying to find the right offensive balance.

But listen, Seth’s face turn is appreciated. The criticism, by the way, was never about him being right or wrong, it was about him being negative. If the Eagles won 70 to 3, he’d complain about the field goal they gave up. Now, over the past year or so, he’s cut back on the Negadelphia and is more of a macro-level type of guy. At least that’s the way it seems on these WIP morning show appearances.

We’d like to welcome Seth Joyner to the pragmatic side of the Philadelphia Eagles fan and media ecosystem. Welcome, Seth!
