Crossing Broad's 15th Anniversary Charity Giveaway
And now, something different.
December marked the 15th anniversary of Crossing Broad, which began in the winter of 2009 with a post titled “Happy Halladays!” in which Kyle Scott wrote about the prize addition of Doc while lamenting the departure of Cliff Lee at the same time. It feels like a hundred years ago. Back then, Trent Cole was the Eagles’ sack leader, Joel Embiid was living in Cameroon, Blair Betts was a Flyer, and the Philadelphia Union had yet to play a game.
35,712 posts later, we’ve hit a milestone of sorts, reaching the same age as a high school freshman. But the site has more maturity than a 9th grader, depending on whom you ask. Long gone are the days of Morning Carts and the comments section, but we’ve grown site traffic and social media to levels that were once a pipe dream. The site has been acquired twice in five-figure transactions and the local colleges even ask us to come speak to the students, to impart our infinite wisdom among P.O.D.’s youth of the nation.
This all warrants something special to celebrate the anniversary, so what I am going to do is unload all of the merch I’ve accumulated over the years. All of it. This is everything I have from the various media games, gifts, and playoff promotions, basically everything that they give us but we feel slimy keeping for ourselves. I’ve unloaded some stuff for IASIP events, but kept about 90% of it and I am going to put it into a pot for a charity giveaway. What I have:
- a limited-edition can of Jason Kelce “Legend Edition” Campbell’s Chunky Soup. The expiration date is February of 2025 so you’ll have about a month to eat it, or you can just dump it and keep the can and put it on your mantle.
- Kyle Schwarber “Philly Standard” Yards merchandise – two t-shirts, size large, a patch, sticker, keychain, pin, and two free beer tickets.
- a Major League Soccer X Apple TV scarf
- an XL Adidas “Aeroready” jersey with MLS and Apple TV on the sleeve
- a Philadelphia Union Bimbo-branded clear bag
- Philadelphia Union training shorts, size L
- a ONE Championship mixed martial arts longsleeve shirt, size L
- a Philadelphia Union small pennant, water bottle, and Koozie
- an Adidas x Philadelphia Union jacket, size L
- an Adidas x Philadelphia Union training top, size L
- MLS notebook
- Premier Lacrosse League hat
- Philadelphia Waterdogs: hat, t shirt, and crewneck, size M
- a 9.14 Pictures Slayer-themed t shirt, size L
- a Goal Zero phone power bank
- a large 76ers patch, 6.5 inches by 6.5 inches
- more random stickers, notebooks, koozies
- two special-edition 76ers X Red Bull boxes with Red Bull glass and notebook, art by Glossblack
The stockpile is more than 25 items amounting to maybe $500 in retail value if I had to guess. But a lot of these things are limited edition or no edition, like they weren’t even available for purchase at all, so there’s an opportunity to snag some unique stuff here to add to your collection, or give out to friends and family.
Let’s keep it simple. All you have to do is click on this link and make a $10 donation (or more) to Manayunk’s Starfinder foundation, which runs soccer programs for underserved youth in the Philadelphia region. Screenshot the receipt, email it to me at k.kinkead@sportradar.com, and then I’ll put you in a drawing to win the entire pile of merch. We’ll give it about two weeks for people to jump in, then we’ll pull a name and declare the winner.
Sound good? Good. And thanks for supporting the website over the years. Thanks for all of the emails and DMs. Without readers, we’d all be learning how to code.
