If you haven’t heard, Taylor Swift is a Philadelphia Eagles fan dating a Kansas City Chief. That creates a bit of a conundrum for the Berks County pop star and her possibly-traitorous father, who have been spending quite a bit of time in flyover country with Travis Kelce and his ilk.

So what’s the play here?

Does she wear Chiefs gear in New Orleans? Eagles gear? Does she show up at all? Of course she does. The Eras Tour is finally over, so she’s not gonna have to fly in at the last minute on her private jet. The “playing it safe” strategy would be to pull a Laura Quinn-Hawk and show up wearing a half-Chiefs, half-Eagles jersey, maybe combine Travis and Jason Kelce into one green and red abomination instead:

This is the easiest path. You show some love to your boyfriend’s team and your hometown team at the same time, and yes, Berks County is Eagles country, from the great borough of Boyertown up to Shartlesville and Topton. Not once has this ever been in dispute. They love the Birds in Reading just as much as Delco and South Jersey. If you go east, up into the Lehigh Valley, you get a blend of New York fans, and if you go south/west-ish you start to encounter Ravens fans in the Lancaster and York area. Anything around Reading, though, has always felt like an extension of the greater Philadelphia area when it comes to Birds fandom. You go up the 422 corridor past Pottstown and that’s Birds territory.

Of course, the role model here is Kylie Kelce, who does not wear Chiefs gear.

She’s been photographed wearing Cincy apparel and anything but red and gold. This loyalty is admirable:

For an expert opinion on the matter, I reached out to the only person in Crossing Broad history to actually know anything about Taylor Swift. That’s intern emeritus Grace Del Pizzo, who is now with Phillies Nation and doing a great job with their social:

CB: What is the best Super Bowl approach for Taylor as an Eagles fan dating a Kansas City Chief? Does she show up wearing the half and half jersey? Does Scott Swift prove himself to be a true Birds fan or a KC turncoat?

Intern emeritus Grace: I hate to say it, but I think Taylor has gone full dark side. Even if she SHOULD show up in a split jersey, I don’t think she’s going to. She’s too far gone at this point. She’s too indoctrinated. That being said, MY eyes will be fixed on Scott Swift. He’s the real wild card here. Supposedly Taylor grew up with Scott watching Eagles games every Sunday, so you’d think he would be loyal, but then again, he has been spotted wearing numerous pieces of Chiefs merchandise. If Scott does not come through, my professional opinion is that Philadelphia should excommunicate him. Make the right choice, Scott.

Agreed with I.E. Grace. Scott Swift could receive the Martin Luther treatment.

The other thing to consider is the “long con” conspiracy theory that was floated in 2023. Swift was supposed to reel in Kelce and get him all comfortable, then pull out the rug and break up with him right before the next Eagles game. He would be so deflated and sad that he would catch one pass for seven yards, maybe pull a Mark Andrews or Dalton Kincaid as the Birds go on to win a laugher. Then Swift shows up to the Super Bowl parade wearing a Brian Dawkins jersey and says “Go Birds” to complete a sporting QAnon.

Of course, no one really knows how much of a Birds fan Taylor is. How many players from the McNabb era do you think she can even name? Could she pick Carlos Emmons out of a crowd? She’s been photographed wearing Eagles gear and put a line in one of her songs about an “Eagles t-shirt hanging from the door.” Now she’s obviously smitten with some goofball who looks like a 6’5″ Rivers Cuomo filling in for Blippi:

But her dad is from Bryn Mawr and is supposed to be this lifelong Birds fan, so his Eagles fandom is stronger and his Chiefs link is weaker. This guy seems like he’s sort of a poser. Guess we’ll find out in less than two weeks. Don’t fuck it up, Scott.

editorial note: we are aware that “no one cares” about Taylor Swift, but just know this will be the most-read story on the site this week, because the Swifties will find it
