A.J. Brown Gives a Glowing Endorsement of Kevin Patullo for Skeptical Eagles Fans Like Myself
I needed the Eagles to get some propaganda out there about the Kevin Patullo hire. Personally, I don’t like elevating a guy internally that has never called plays. It didn’t work in 2018 and it didn’t work in 2023. Sorry if I feel a little apprehensive before the guy has even called his first game. Is it fair? No. But I’ve seen this movie before. Here’s A.J. Brown to put us skeptics somewhat at ease, via Nick Shook at NFL.com:
“For our fans, they need to understand everything has to change,” Brown explained during an interview that will air on Thursday on NFL Network’s The Insiders. “I know we just won, but it has to change. We have to get better, and we have to do things different. But I truly feel like it’s a great hire; he already has been involved in almost everything. Him, Kellen (Moore) and Nick (Sirianni) basically called the plays already.
“So, it’s a great hire and he’s already familiar with us. We have a great relationship, and he knows what we need to work on because he’s been there, and he’s been there for a while, and like I said, he’s already been a part of all the situations and the conversations and everything. So, I think it’s a great hire.”
Thank you A.J. Brown. I needed this. I didn’t know how involved Patullo was in the system and that there was a triumvirate of play callers he was a part of. If this is true then I’m all for this hire. Brown knows what’s going on in the locker room and in meetings more than we do. The fact he’s saying he has a good relationship with Patullo and that he’s been involved in almost everything they do will help me sleep a little better at night.
Now, of course I’m still skeptical. I’m an Eagles fan. This feels like a child of divorce telling his dad that his mom’s new boyfriend is actually a good guy. You’ve heard stories from around town. He was kind of an asshole in high school. Has he changed? Who knows? But it only takes one tale from a buddy who knew him to form your opinion. Insert Jalen Hurts:

Hopefully Kevin Patullo used to be a piece of shit:
