Matt Strahm is dealing with shoulder inflammation and will not throw for a few days:

The Phillies will be smart about Strahm throughout the rest of the spring. Don’t expect him to pitch at all down in Clearwater. Strahm is the Phillies’ best reliever and hasn’t pitched since Wednesday, when he allowed four earned runs and two walks in just two thirds of an inning.

If there’s one aspect of the Phillies roster that I’m still iffy about heading into 2025, it’s bullpen depth. I still feel like they need one more arm, especially now with Strahm’s Opening Day status in jeopardy. Jose Alvarado has impressed this spring, hitting 101.6 back at the beginning of March. I’d expect the Phillies to look into the pitching market once teams start to make cuts towards the end of spring.

You can never have enough pitching, remember that. Here’s what the Phillies bullpen looks like as of right now:

  • Matt Strahm (shoulder soreness)
  • Orion Kerkering
  • Jose Alvarado
  • Jordan Romano
  • Joe Ross
  • Jose Ruiz
  • Tanner Banks
  • Taijuan Walker (assuming he’s on the roster as a reliever)
