The St. Louis Cardinals are currently 2-3 and haven’t played since July 29th due to a rash of COVID infections within the organization.

Major League Baseball, in a determined effort to stuff the squarest of pegs into the roundest of holes, has come up with a scheduling solution for the Cards, stuffing 53 games into a 47-day period that will run through the end of September.

Here’s the press release detailing the updated schedule:

Talk about a headache.

They have ten (!) doubleheaders between now and September 30th, which is just an insane amount of games to play. These guys are gonna be stretched to the limit physically, and the pitching rotation is going to be a nightmare to figure out. They might as well just cruise through the season, get it done, try not to injure anybody long term, and focus on next year.
