Temple vs. Cincinnati Game Cancelled, Ending the Owls’ Football Season

Temple’s football season is over.
With one win and six losses, they were scheduled to wrap things up Saturday against unbeaten and 8th-ranked Cincinnati, but that game is being cancelled due to COVID-19.
Here’s the explanation from the American Athletic Conference:
IRVING, Texas – “The American Athletic Conference has announced that the scheduled football game between Cincinnati and Temple will not be played due to positive COVID-19 cases and the ensuing contact tracing of student-athletes at both institutions.
The game was scheduled to be played this Saturday, Nov. 28. Though the schools share a common open date Dec. 5, The American’s return-to-play protocols would not allow for a sufficient number of student-athletes to be available for competition on that date.
The game will not be rescheduled and will be declared a no-contest.”
In a statement, head coach Rod Carey said this, in part:
“I think it will be good to step away from football for a moment and let the players finish up the school semester strong. We all look forward to decompressing, learning from this experience, and coming back stronger in 2021.”
So that’s it. Temple finishes the season at 1-6 with the lone win coming at home against South Florida back in October. They’ll end on a five-game losing streak and we can very safely deposit this campaign in the dumpster and move on to the next one. They would have been smashed by Cincy anyway.
