On Saturday night, the Philadelphia 76ers will play host to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Sixers enter play at 33-15, just a half game behind the Brooklyn Nets for the best record in the Eastern Conference. The Timberwolves find themselves in dead-last in the Western Conference at a woeful 12-37.

Let’s get into our Sixers-Timberwolves betting preview, including odds, boosts, and picks.

Sixers vs. Timberwolves Betting Pick (April 3, 2021)

Just over three weeks ago, MVP frontrunner Joel Embiid suffered a bone bruise after an awkward post-dunk landing against the Washington Wizards. His Philadelphia 76ers teammates played rather well since, going 4-2 on a six-game road trip and 7-3 overall in games without Embiid.

While Embiid’s status could change by the 8:00 PM tip-off, he’s listed as questionable going into tonight’s contest with the expectation that he’ll make his return to the lineup in a low-stakes contest.

Philadelphia enters tonight’s game coming off a 20-point blowout of the Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena, finishing off a six-game road trip with a decisive win. The Sixers manhandled the Timberwolves in a January 29 game that saw Philadelphia walk away with a 24-point victory 118-94. In that game, Joel Embiid dominated with 37 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists. Malik Beasley led the way for Minnesota with 22 points on the night.

Minnesota enters play in the second half of a road back-to-back after dropping the first half 120-108 in Memphis against the Grizzlies on Friday night. Karl-Anthony Towns was the standout star for the Timberwolves, racking up 30 points and 16 rebounds in 34 minutes of play. Anthony Edwards and Naz Reid were the only other players to make it into double digits for Minnesota with 22 and 18 points, respectively. Minnesota has gone 3-2 in their last five games, but just 4-6 in their last ten games overall.

Can Minnesota capture their first win against Philadelphia this season?

Bets We Like With a Sixers Win

FiveThirtyEight gives the Sixers a 86% chance of winning with a -11.5 point line. The oddsmakers agree, with the Sixers’ implied win probability based on the moneyline at a slightly higher 88%.

Sixers Win and Under 225.5 Points (+107, DraftKings Sportsbook)

The Philadelphia 76ers are clearly the more talented team and appear poised to have MVP candidate Joel Embiid back in the lineup for tonight’s game. Embiid might end up on a minutes restriction, but one has to assume he’ll make it his personal mission to get back on the MVP radar after a three-week absence. His matchup with Karl-Anthony Towns should be must-see TV, but KAT would need a ton of help from his teammates to keep this one close, let alone win it.

The Sixers are an astounding 29-7 this season when they’ve been installed as the favorite.

As for the under, it’s been a safe bet in Sixers games as of late. The Sixers have seen the total go under in five of their last six games, with all five of those games going under 225.5 points. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves have seen the under hit in four of their last five games, though only three of those four went under 225.5.

Sixers Win and Each Team to Score Over 99.5 Points (+110, FOX Bet)

Given the heavy favorite status the Sixers have entering tonight’s game, a same-game parlay could be worth a look and there’s reason to believe both teams could clear the 99.5 point threshold. The Sixers had scored at least 100 points in seven of their last eight games.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome

Karl-Anthony Towns to Record a Double Double (-162, FOX Bet)

Karl-Anthony Towns has been on an absolute tear as of late. He’s averaging 27 points and 11.4 rebounds per game over his last five games, all of which have come in double double efforts. He’s recorded a double double in seven of his last nine games and 16 of his last 25 games overall. Although things haven’t gone his team’s way this season, KAT has not quit on his team and figures to be the standout star for a Minnesota Timberwolves team in need of any positives it can get.

Joel Embiid to Score 20+ Points and Karl-Anthony Towns to Score 25+ Points (+103, FanDuel Sportsbook)

This is a custom bet you’ll need to build via FanDuel Sportsbook’s Same Game Parlay option. Joel Embiid is expected to be back in the lineup, but could do so with a minutes restriction after missing three weeks of play as he’s been recovering from a bone bruise in his knee. Embiid, however, isn’t the kind of player to ease back into the swing of things. In just over 20 minutes of play against the Wizards prior to his injury, Embiid dropped 23 points and pulled down 7 rebounds. He recorded at least 20 points in five straight games and 19 of his last 20.

Karl-Anthony Towns is the primary offensive weapon on this Timberwolves team, and even with a tough matchup against Joel Embiid looming, expect Towns to get enough opportunities to score to get to 25 points. He’s put up at least 25 points in four of his last five games and seven of his last ten games overall.

It’s not a huge multiplier, but given the importance each player holds for their respective teams, expect them to meet the thresholds required to pay out this bet.

Sixers vs. Timberwolves Prediction

Pick: The Sixers are the far superior team and boast a stellar 19-4 record at the Wells Fargo Center this season. Minnesota has only managed to win five games on the road in 25 attempts, which is by far the fewest of any team in the NBA. Take the Sixers to Win and Under 225.5 points. Also, consider the Embiid and Towns same game parlay bet.
