The Philadelphia Flyers will play host to the New Jersey Devils at the Wells Fargo Center for the second time this season in what marks the teams’ fourth matchup this season. It’s the first time the teams have met since March 23. Prior to that, they hadn’t played each other since January 28.

The Flyers and Devils find themselves in sixth and seventh place in the East Division at 21-19-7 and 14-27-6, respectively. While the Devils’ current standing is what many expected ahead of the season –as they’ve clearly established themselves as a rebuilding team– this season has been anything but what Philadelphia fans expected of their team. After making it to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals last season, the Flyers proved to be a poorly-constructed roster lacking the necessary defensive quality to be a legitimate contender in a stacked East Division. Their goaltending was mediocre at best for a large stretch of the season, however as of late the team as a whole has put together better overall defensive efforts.
The Devils are just 1-9-0 in their last ten games, while the Flyers are a tad better at 3-5-2. Will New Jersey pull off the upset or will Philadelphia earn their third victory over the Devils in four attempts?

Flyers Win and Under 6.5 Goals (+160, DraftKings Sportsbook)
Sunday night’s meeting between the Flyers and Devils represents one of the least-compelling games on the slate for hockey fans, especially for fans of these two teams, many of whom are counting down the days until their squads’ miserable seasons come to an end. However, the games must be played and there are wagers to be considered. The East Division’s sixth- and seventh-place teams are slated to meet four times this week, with the Devils appearing as the opponent in five of Philadelphia’s final nine games of the season.
Despite their inconsistent play all season, the Flyers are a more talented team than the Devils squad opposing them on Sunday night. New Jersey and the Buffalo Sabres have been in a battle for the worst record in the entire league, with the two lowest point totals in the NHL. While it can be said that the Devils have given up on their season, the same cannot be said for the Flyers. Although Philadelphia is just 3-5-2 in their last 10 games, they’ve taken down the fifth-place Rangers, battled hard against the Islanders in a 1-0 OT loss, and earned wins over the Penguins and Bruins.
As for taking the Under 6.5 Goals market as part of a two-game parlay, keep in mind that the difference in odds between taking the Flyers to Win and Under 6 Goals (+195) as opposed to the Flyers to Win and Under 6.5 Goals (+160) is negligible when you factor in the inclusion of a 4-2 result as a potential outcome. The Flyers have seen the Under 6.5 Goals market hit in each of their last three games and four of their last five overall. The Devils, meanwhile, have seen the total goals scored go under 6.5 in consecutive games.

James van Riemsdyk to Score a Goal (+225, FOX Bet)
After scoring 13 goals in his first 26 games this season, James van Riemsdyk found himself mired in a woeful 17-game goalless drought. It was the longest of the season for the 12-year veteran forward. He managed to snap the streak with a goal on April 17 in a loss to the Washington Capitals and followed it up two games later with a two-goal performance against the New York Rangers.
Goal scorers can shoot themselves out of a slump and JVR has been one of the leagues streakier scorers throughout his time in the league. When it comes to goal-dependent player props, this one is worth taking a flier on.

Sean Couturier to Record Over 0.5 Assists (-130, BetMGM)
Earlier this season, reigning Selke Trophy recipient Sean Couturier was playing like a man possessed, racking up points consistently and making those who followed our Flyers betting previews some consistent money in the process. Couturier racked up at least one point in 20 of his first 26 games. On the season, he’s recorded at least one point in 25 of his 36 games played, and has dished out an assist in each of his last two games following a three-game scoreless streak.
In his lone appearance against the Devils this season, Couturier found the back of the net twice. We’d recommend getting in on Couturier to record an assist at -130 odds rather than the more general Over 0.5 Points at -250 odds, because Couturier has settled into more of the playmaker role in recent games than that of a goalscorer. If you’re looking for a solid player prop to wager on, this is it.

Flyers vs. Devils Prediction
Pick: Despite the fact that this game features two of the bottom three teams in the East Division, the Flyers haven’t given up on their season like the Devils have. The Orange & Black will look to get a four-game set started with a win and we agree with the oddsmakers and projection model that they will do so. Take the Flyers to Win and Under 6.5 Goals.
