Chuck Fletcher is out here wheeling and dealing. Cam Atkinson, Rasmus Ristolainen, Keith Yandle, and Ryan Ellis are Philly-bound. Jake Voracek, Robert Hagg, Nolan Patrick, Phil Myers, and Ghost are out.

The main thing left for the Flyers GM to do was add a backup goaltender and he went out and addressed that spot by signing Martin Jones to a one-year deal worth two million dollars. He also brought back Nate Thompson:

Jones had some moments in San Jose but kind of stinks now. That’s what I was told by people who actually know hockey. He’s only 31 years old but saw his goals against average eclipse 3.00 in the past two seasons and his save percentage dipped to .896, which was 50th in the NHL last season among qualified goaltenders.

The thing about San Jose is that they were pretty sad this past season. Not a good defensive team. None of their goaltenders did well. So if you’re banking on a change of scenery and improvement from that, then maybe Jones turns out to be a decent #2 behind Carter Hart.

I don’t know if the Flyers will be any good this year, but it’s a different team with some new pieces, and that’s intriguing.
