Flyers Trading Claude Giroux to Florida Panthers (UPDATED)

End of an era in Philly. Anthony and the Nasty Knuckles podcast had the first sniff of the Giroux-to-Florida trade and it’s going official right now:
The @NHLFlyers have finalized the trade of captain Claude Giroux to the Florida Panthers. Awaiting final details.

Couple of nuggets here. First, Owen Tippett is coming to Philly in return, as Anthony mentioned on Friday. From Sportsnet up in Canada:
The Philadelphia Flyers traded longtime captain Claude Giroux to the Florida Panthers for prospect Owen Tippett on Saturday.
Connor Bunnaman, a fourth-round pick by the Flyers in 2016, is also going to the Panthers in the deal.
Giroux was at the centre of much trade speculation leading up to Monday’s deadline as he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He played in his 1,000th game with the Flyers at home this past Thursday but did not travel with the team on their road trip to Ottawa.
And there’s this from Emily Kaplan:
Sources: Florida Panthers are acquiring Claude Giroux.
I'm told Panthers package was "aggressive, not as aggressive as Boston or Colorado."
Giroux's arrival gives Barkov an elite player to play with, and one of the top face-off guys in the league.

There was a rumor floating around out there that Giroux reportedly had no interest in going to Boston, which cements his Philly legacy. Anybody who tells Boston to fuck off goes into the pantheon here.
I’ll update the post when more details come out, but doesn’t this look super weird?

EDIT 1:
[the_ad id=”103880″]Oh yeah… and the Flyers retain 50% of Giroux's salary…. sorry, forgot to type that initially.
