Meantime, in New York, WFAN’s Gregg Giannotti and Boomer Esiason talk about the Flyers and the DOOP song:

A lot to unpack here!

Boomer suggests that DOOP is by “that German band.” Surely he’s gotta be referencing Rammstein, unless he’s a closet KMFDM or Kraftwerk fan, in which case Boomer quickly rises in the favorability rankings. Germany had a banging industrial scene back in the day. In truth, former Philadelphia Union coach Peter Nowak stole DOOP from a German soccer team called Borussia Monchengladbach, and then the Flyers borrowed it briefly and used it as their goal song, so they at least got the country of origin correct.

Gio rambling like a goofball is strange. He sounds like he’s doing the oompa-loompa song from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. He may actually have been an oompa-loompa prior to beginning his radio career (same height). Flyers fans aren’t bad. They’ve watched a lot of shitty hockey over the years, so if anything, the Wells Fargo Center has really mellowed. This isn’t like Madison Square Garden, where you might get sucker punched by a Rangers fan:
