Shout Out to the Drexel Student Who Nailed a $10,000 Half Court Shot

Drexel had their Blue & Gold Madness basketball kickoff event on Thursday night, and a student hit a $10k half court shot:

I don’t know which bars Drexel kids go to anymore, but this kid could would be the cock of the walk in Cavs (RIP) that night.

CBS 3 got an exclusive with the kid:

Drexel computer science student Sakirul Karim pumped his fist and was hoisted into the air by the Dragons basketball team after making a half-court shot Thursday night.

Karim said he wasn’t planning on coming that night but his friends convinced him. And then he won a raffle for the chance to take the shot – winning $10,000.

“It was just a string of lucky events,” he told CBS News Philadelphia. “Putting my name in the raffle, then actually getting the chance, then making it? It’s just crazy.”

Karim said he’s played pickup basketball here and there but nothing professionally.

I LOVE the addition of “nothing professionally” added in there. Hard hitting journalism from CBS on this one. Thanks for clarifying the 5’7, 20-year-old computer science major hasn’t played basketball professionally. I assumed all professional basketball players knock down half-court shots then go home and write code.

Is anyone else shocked a mid-major like Drexel was able to dole out $10,000? Cause I am. I mean this guy at Tennessee last year made a layup, free throw, 3-pointer, AND half-court shot and won….$600:
