RADIO WARS: Bob Cooney Out at 97.5 the Fanatic

Per him:

We were told Cooney had been working without a contract.

As for a replacement, obviously Mike Missanelli is in play for the midday slot. Jonny Marks reported last week that the Mike/Fanatic reunion looks to be in place ahead of football season. My understanding is that 97.5 is also high on Bill Colarulo and Amy Fadool as new pieces. Colarulo hosts weekends and has filled in on P.M. drive while Fadool had been co-hosting alongside Cooney. The Fanatic was trying some different talent combinations and looking at their various options while the Missanelli thing simmered in the background.

Bob originally joined Anthony Gargano’s morning show when he came to the Fanatic back in 2017. After Cuz moved out of that time slot, Cooney then worked with John Kincade, Jamie Lynch, and Pat Egan from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. before being put on middays.

EDIT – I will say that I think Cooney was one of the stronger basketball minds there, if not the best. He covered the Sixers as a newspaper writer and if you’re going to be the Sixers’ radio rights holder, you should have some basketball-savvy talent on the roster. I’d try to leverage that opportunity, because if you just do the “playing the hits” thing with the Eagles, you’re gonna lose to rights holder WIP.
