Phillies Sign South Jersey Reliever to Minor League Deal

The Phillies signed South Jersey native Cody Stashak to a minor-league deal, per Matt Gelb of The Athletic:
Phillies signed righty reliever Cody Stashak to a minor-league deal. The South Jersey native had 72 innings in majors with Twins from 2019-22. Spent 2024 at Triple A in Giants org. Phillies will take a look in spring.

Stashak hasn’t pitched in the Majors since 2022. His best season was his first with Minnesota, when he logged a 3.24 ERA in 18 appearances with just 3 homers allowed and 25 strikeouts. He’s reportedly added some strikeout stuff and has thrown his slider nearly 50% of the time in his career.
Stashak is a 2012 graduate of Oakcrest High School in Mays Landing. He went to Cumberland County College for two years, then transferred to St. John’s University in 2015 and helped lead the team to a Big East title. The 30-year-old spent the 2024 season in the Giants organization, logging a 5.45 ERA in 27 games before being released in August.
The Phillies are going to get all of the pitching depth they can. There’s no guarantee that Stashak will still be in the organization come Opening Day 2025, but any minor-league deal is worth a shot.
