Kathy Romano Leaving Preston and Steve Show, Won’t Be Replaced (UPDATED)

Preston and Steve teased a 9 a.m. announcement on Thursday morning, which turned out to be the departure of co-host and traffic updater Kathy Romano. They did not say on the air whether it was her choice or not, but an emotional Preston later noted that she would not be replaced, which had people believing that this was a Beasley decision.
Romano, thanking the staff, later used the phrase “wherever I end up,” more or less confirming that she doesn’t have something else lined up right now, further adding to the thought that this was a corporate decision.
EDIT – this is confirmed. Romano posted on her Instagram that it was not her decision:
As you know, Beasley has been cutting at all of their Philadelphia stations, basically all of their stations in the country, laying off talent at 97.5 the Fanatic, 102.9 WMGK, and everywhere else. But Preston and Steve is a behemoth of a ratings monster and it was always thought that the show would be invulnerable to any kind of downsizing.
For some background, Romano had been with the show for more than 20 years. She was with NBC 10 as a traffic anchor before making the jump in 2003.
They talked about this for about 40 minutes at 9 a.m. You can scroll back on the YouTube clip here if you want to listen. I’ll see if we can get some confirmation from sources on the “this was a Beasley decision” speculation:
