Philadelphia Caught a Stray from Someone in Gavin Newsom’s Press Office Who Must be a 49ers Fan

Unless you’re living under a rock, or enjoying a phone-free weekend, you’re probably aware that clashes are taking place in Los Angeles because ICE is trying to deport people and facing resistance. On Sunday, in response to a tweet from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Governor Gavin Newsom’s press office brought Philly into the equation:

Now hold on just a minute! We didn’t do nothin! Leave us out of this. The person who tweeted this can’t be serious, right? Invoking Philadelphia sports fan behavior when you live in California is like the the world’s biggest pot calling the world’s biggest kettle black. Do you recall the last time a Philadelphia Eagles draft pick was shot in the chest, or a fan stabbed to death after a game, or shanked inside a burger joint by someone cheering for the same team? Yeah, me neither. But those things did happen in California.

That’s not to excuse the behavior that takes place out here, because it does go overboard and people need to reel it in. But someone tell admin that you don’t have to send in the National Guard or the MARINES for inebriated young people celebrating a sports win. Local police can handle it and they do handle it. These aren’t clashes with federal agents. Eagles fans aren’t throwing molotov cocktails at ICE, they’re celebrating the Birds going belt-to-ass en route to the Super Bowl. Little bit of a different situation there!

Cue the 50 Cent meme. “What he say fuck me for?”
