He’s it Baby! Flyers Draft Big Winger Porter Martone

The pick is in, and it’s winger Porter Martone:

Martone is huge for an 18 year old. 6’3″, 205 pounds, a big winger from the OHL’s Brampton with a right-handed shot. Some analysts had him in the top three or four on their big boards and he ended up being available for the Flyers at #6 when the Predators took Brady Martin 5th.

He should be a really nice fit here. Definitely a Flyers type of player. The kid can hit but he’s got a lot of skill and playmaking ability as well. He had 31 goals and 67 assists in the OHL this past season over 57 games, plus four goals and five assists in six playoff games. He debuted for the Canada U17 team back in 2022 and captained the U18s at the 2024 Worlds.

James Hagens was on the board and available for the Flyers, who need centers, but they really need everything, and Martone is one of those “best player available” types of picks. It’s hard to argue with this decision considering that they have a lot of draft picks and can move around the board if necessary to grab another guy they like.

Some stuff to digest here as we move through the first round:
