The Mets Did Something That No MLB Team Has Done in the Modern Era

Incredible:

The box score looks so incredible goofy because Jesus Luzardo got rocked in the first inning and finished with four runs on five hits, 10 strikeouts over eight innings of work. He only threw 97 pitches. Then Jhoan Duran came out and struck out Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, and Mark Vientos in order to close the game. Hilarious. Just like they drew it up!

One of the guys in our Slack channel has a friend who says that the Mets aren’t bad, they’re “just very creative at losing.” That seems very accurate. Our Sportradar data says they’ve lost 34 games this season in which they’ve had a lead. That’s tied for 10th most in Major League Baseball. They are one of just two teams currently in playoff position in the top ten for this statistic. The Yank Stank is 12th, with 33 blown leads, and the Phils are middle of the pack, at 31. The Miami Marlins are second-last in MLB, with just 25 blown lead losses, but the caveat there is that you can’t blow a lead if you never have it in the first place.
