The Phillies agreed to a split contract with Garrett Stubbs ahead of Friday night’s tender deadline:

Phillies have agreed to a split contract with catcher Garrett Stubbs ahead of today’s 5 p.m. tender deadline. He’ll make $925k in majors and $575k in minors, per source. Stubbs is out of minor-league options, but Phillies chose to retain some catching depth.

Stubbs spent just about all of the 2025 season in the minor leagues as the catcher of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, slashing .265/.352/.402 with a .754 OPS. The 32-year-old hit 8 homers, drove in 50 runs, and logged 70 hits across 264 at-bats.

Stubbs lost the backup catcher battle to Rafael Marchan at the beginning of last season, partially due to the fact that he was out of minor-league options. The Phillies value Stubbs, although a lot of the fanbase doesn’t. Stubbs has been a huge factor in pitcher development over the last couple of years, especially down in AAA last season.

The Phillies have until 5 p.m. Friday to tender contracts to the eight other required players: Jesus Luzardo, Alec Bohm, Jhoan Duran, Bryson Stott, Brandon Marsh, Edmundo Sosa, Tanner Banks, and Rafael Marchan.
