It’s a given that Kevin Patullo is fired, right? You can’t keep him around for another year. The fans will revolt. There’s no way Jeffrey Lurie will sit there and watch that slop again.

Naturally, there’s a lot of chatter that the Birds should can Patullo and go get Mike McDaniel, who is interviewing for the Cleveland job:

For who? For what? To coach Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel? The Browns aren’t winning anything any time soon.

The job he should take is the Eagles’ offensive coordinator job. Think about it. He gets a Super Bowl-winning quarterback. He gets DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, and the other receiver who complains a lot and sends cryptic messages. He gets Saquon Barkley and hopefully Tank Bigsby. He gets a healthy offensive line after whatever this season was, and he gets to coach in front of fans who actually care. Miami is not a real football town. Come on, man! And he doesn’t have to worry about the defensive side of the ball at all. He can just focus on doing what he does best.

Here are McDaniel’s offensive ranks as OC and head coach:

  • 2021: 49ers offensive coordinator (didn’t call plays): 7th in yards (375.7 YPG), 13th in PPG (25.1)
  • 2022: Dolphins head coach: 6th in yards (364.5 YPG), 11th in PPG (23.4)
  • 2023: Dolphins head coach: 1st in yards (401.3 YPG), 2nd in PPG (29.2)
  • 2024: Dolphins head coach: 18th in yards (325.4 YPG), 22nd in PPG (20.3)
  • 2025: Dolphins head coach: 26th in yards (300.7 YPG), 25th in PPG (20.4)

2021 was a Jimmy G year in San Francisco. They went to the NFC title game with Kyle Shanahan calling plays. Then McDaniel had Tua in Miami, who went to the Pro Bowl in 2023 while throwing for 4,600 yards. Tua is on a Kyler Murray trajectory. He’s an NFL quarterback but Miami is gonna win anything meaningful with him.

McDaniel should come here. He needs a change of scenery and a reset and so do the Eagles. Philadelphia is no South Florida, but we can find him a nice place in Haddonfield and get him settled. We alternate between going to the Super Bowl and exiting in the first round, and next year is a Super Bowl year. Do the deal!
