Team USA Wins Gold, Pays Tribute to Johnny Gaudreau After One of the Greatest Hockey Games Ever
That was AWESOME. What a game of hockey. Team USA won Olympic gold for the first time since 1980 with an overtime goal from Jack Hughes:
Afterward, they paid tribute to the late Johnny Gaudreau while his parents looked on in Milan:
That was so good. Great job by Brian Boucher (Booooooosh) of being on the spot with that reaction.
Where do you even start with the game itself? The Matt Boldy goal was an incredible solo effort. Connor Hellebuyck was brilliant, just big save after big save. They fought off a 5v3 in the second period and were on their heels to start the third. They took a bad penalty late and fought off another power play, Nathan MacKinnon missed an open net, and they basically just held on and held on and held on and won it in OT.
They showed a lot of that intrinsic American resilience and grit and determination and they fought so hard for the win. There were portions of the game where they looked completely outmatched and all they did was just batten down the hatches and scratch and claw and work for it. You talk about attitude and mindset and all of those things that you quantify? That’s what this team had.
Let it be know that team USA swept Canada in these Olympics. Women’s gold, men’s gold. But silver shines just as bright lol –
