The Philadelphia Union Simply Refuse to Lose

The Union were down 3-0 at halftime in Kansas City on Saturday night and came to win 4-3:
Incredible. They simply refuse to lose. That’s 11 domestic games now since the World Cup break in which they have 9 wins and 2 draws. They are all the way up to 6th place in the Eastern Conference after falling to 15th to start the season. Interim head coach Ryan Richter has yet to taste defeat going on two full months now.
This streak, 11 games unbeaten, ties the record set by last year’s squad, which went unbeaten from April 19th to June 29th en route to the second trophy in franchise history. If this current team wins or draws at home against Orlando next Saturday night, they’ll break the record. The problem is that they’ll be without the guys who were just called up to the U.S. National Team, since MLS currently plays through international windows. That’s Cavan Sullivan, Neil Pierre, and Frankie Westfield.
So they’ll either set the unbeaten record without some key pieces, or we can put an asterisk on it. Either way, this team is hotter than the surface of the sun.
