The wait is over for NBA fans. The season begins on Tuesday, with the highlight being the Philadelphia 76ers taking on the New York Knicks. Before tipoff, the Knicks will hang their first banner in 53 years. Catch the action at Madison Sqaure Garden at 7 pm ET on NBC.

In our 76ers-Knicks preview, we are explaining how you can make predictions on the first day of NBA action using one of the most popular sports trading apps. Novig gives NBA fans across the spreads, moneylines, totals, player props and much more.

Knicks Favored on Banner Night

It’ll be a celebration for the Knicks on Tuesday night. Madison Square Garden will be an electric atmosphere as players receive their rings. Everybody is back for New York as they begin their campaign for a repeat.

  • Guard: Jalen Brunson
  • Guard: Mikal Bridges
  • Forward: Josh Hart
  • Forward: OG Anuoby
  • Center: Karl-Anthony Towns

Defending NBA champs have been dominant in openers. They are 64–15 (.810) all-time on banner night, outscoring opponents by an average of 8.1 points per game (107.3 to 99.2).

76ers Debut for Brown and James

Two star players are making their debut for the 76ers. The former Boston Celtic, along with the all-time NBA scoring leader will look to spoil the celebration in the Big Apple.

  • Guard: Tyrese Maxey
  • Guard: VJ Edgecombe
  • Forward: Jaylen Brown
  • Forward: LeBron James
  • Center: Joel Embiid

In 22 career NBA regular season openers, LeBron James has an 8–14 (.364) team record, averaging 25.0 points, 8.1 rebounds and 6.2 assists in 37.3 minutes per game while shooting 50.1% from the field.

The Pick: Knicks -4.5

Since banner night has been so successful for teams in the NBA, I’m riding with the Knicks to cover the spread at Madison Square Garden.

Plus, James has a losing record in openers throughout his legendary career. The 76ers may end up being a contender in the Eastern Conference, but it may take some time for this group. And with this lineup, a lot of their success may depend on how healthy this team can be at the end of the season.

Traders are expecting the 76ers to gel this season. They actually have a better probability to win the NBA championship than the Knicks. Right now, the 76ers are at 12%, with the Knicks coming in at 10%. These teams still trail the Oklahoma City Thunder (27%), San Antonio Spurs (26%) and Minnesota Timberwolves (20%).
