Video: Carlos Ruiz Pitched Last Night
By Kyle Scott
Published:

Carlos Ruiz threw 30 pitches, gave up two hits, one run, struck out one and walked two in one inning last night.
As if you needed any more reason to love Chooch, here it is:

Two things:
1) Searching “Carlos Ruiz” on Twitter immediately brings up more Tweets from Philly folks than Seattle folks. Tells you all you need to know about both Philly fans and how beloved Chooch was.
2) We talk a lot about baseball’s problem with new media and such. A search on YouTube for Ruiz turns up no relevant results from the past 24 hours. None. If something unique and quirky like this were to happen in the NBA or NFL, there would be countless videos, screen grabs and such within minutes of it happening. Baseball? Nothing.
3) Worse, video of Ruiz pitching, which would easily be the most shareable baseball video of the day, is not available to embed from MLB.com. You can watch it here. I can’t imagine why MLB struggles to reach a younger audience.
Ruiz averaged 84 mph on his fastball, with an effective change at 80 and apparently a 72 mph knuckleball:
