Reports: Phillies Sign Chase Utley to Two-Year Extension

Published:
The Phillies have signed Chase Utley to a two-year, $20-$30 million contract extension, according to bow tie man himself, little baby Ken Rosenthal:
The Phillies are close to signing Utley to a two-year extension with multiple vesting options, according to major-league sources. The total guaranteed money in the deal will be in the “high 20s,” one source said — between $25 million and $30 million.
Rosenthal also says the deal may include vesting options.
Other are reporting that a deal has been reached. And it seems like a good one.
Everyone wanted Utley to remain a Phillie– if the price was right. I feared Ruben Amaro would give him upwards of $48 million. A two-year deal for below $30 million keeps Utley in Philadelphia for perhaps the remainder of his career, and it may be at a price that won’t prevent the Phillies from doing other things.
More soon.
