ANOTHER ONE:

Howie Roseman traded for Za’Darius Smith, who retired. He brought B.G. out of retirement and traded for Michael Carter and Jaire Alexander, now he trades for Jaelan Phillips, who is 26 years old and on the last year of his Dolphins contract. He’s had both Achilles and ACL injuries, which limited him to just 12 games in 2023 and 2024, but in his 2021 and 2022 seasons he logged 15.5 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and 41 QB hits. He was a first round pick out of UCLA back in 2021 and played for Vic Fangio down there.

The NFL Insiders are reporting that the pick going to Miami is the Eagles’ own third rounder, and not the one acquired in the Haason Reddick trade, so that means it’s the lower of both picks. Since Phillips is a rental, if he leaves in free agency he counts towards the compensatory formula and could return a draft pick. They still have a ton of projected picks coming up, since Howie stockpiled with some smart maneuvering. That includes a 1st, 2nd, then two thirds, two fourths, and two fifths. ESPN’s Jordan Reid notes that the Mekhi Becton, Milton Williams, and Josh Sweat comp picks still have to be settled as well.

The Eagles needed reinforcement on the edge and they’ll have Phillips for the rest of the year and perhaps beyond if he does well. This season he has 25 tackles, three sacks, 3 TFL, and 7 QB hits in nine games.
