The Flyers Will Rightfully Recognize the Irish with a 2027 Heritage Night

After giving the lousy Italians* a heritage night in 2026, the Flyers will have Irish heritage night in 2027:

February 24th, against the Buffalo Sabres. A few weeks before St. Patrick’s Day. All ticket package buyers will receive the clover beanie you see in the picture, which is nice. The Paisans got a black t-shirt last year with white, green, and red lettering.

Some ideas for on-ice entertainment during Irish heritage night:

  • Gritty comes out with a Shillelagh and bashes Rasmus Dahlin over the head with it
  • Travis Konecny gets into a spat with Zach Benson and smushes a piece of soda bread into his face
  • the t-shirt cannon is loaded with potatoes and Gritty fires dozens and dozens of spuds around the arena
  • Conor McGregor fights Gritty at center ice, but blows his knee out
  • Bono comes out to perform the national anthem, and then fans in attendance receive a push notification informing them that the latest U2 album was just downloaded to their phone
  • Gritty dumps a steaming-hot bowl of Irish stew over Lindy Ruff’s head
  • the music director plays nothing but Thin Lizzy all night long, and none of their bullshit radio hits, like “The Boys are Back in Town.” That might be the worst song from Jailbreak.
  • Bob Kelly and Kathy Orr start the St. Patrick’s Day parade early, and lead the participants right through the tunnel and onto the ice
  • special guests Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman Reedus recreate the famous Boondock Saints 2 scene where they powerslide across the floor with guns blazing, but this time they slide on the ice

These are just a few thoughts.
