A Winning Streak? Why Cristopher Sanchez, Phillies are Poised to Make it Happen vs. Giants

Don Mattingly didn’t change a thing in his debut as Phillies interim manager, but the results sure did.

The same Phillies lineup that was held to 3 or fewer runs 7 times during its recent 10-game losing streak, crossed home plate 7 times Tuesday night in a much-needed win over the visiting Giants. Trea Turner still led off — and had his first 4-hit game of the season. Bryce Harper’s soft fly ball down the left-field line, which no doubt would have been caught a week ago, dropped for an RBI double. Alec Bohm had 2 hits — just his fourth multi-hit game of the season.

And Jesus Luzardo? Every bit as outstanding as he was during a breakthrough 2025. Luzardo allowed 2 hits and struck out 8 in 7 shutout innings. He didn’t walk a batter and didn’t allow a Giants baserunner to reach third base. In yesterday’s preview, I predicted Luzardo would shove, but he delivered one of his best outings as a Phillie.

For a night, anyway, all was right with the defending NL East champs.

Alas, the grind never ends. Let’s hope the good times don’t either, as Cristopher Sanchez (2-2, 2.94 ERA) takes the ball tonight against San Francisco’s Logan Webb (2-3, 4.86).

Can the Phillies win back-to-back home games for just the second time this season? Let’s dive in while we await tonight’s first pitch (6:40 pm, ET, NBCSP+).

Moneyline Pick: Phillies To Win (YES, $0.58 per/-138 at Kalshi)

The Phillies are favored tonight, so picking them to beat a 13-16 Giants team isn’t exactly the bravest wager in Pennsylvania sports betting history.

Until you remember this team hasn’t won back-to-back games since April 3-4, and hasn’t won back-to-back home games since March 31-April 1.

Let others cast doubt. I’m riding the wave and expecting Sanchez to throw darts. He has to pitch better than he did in the 6-0 loss at San Francisco on April 8. His changeup wasn’t effective that night and he paid the price: 11 hits, 4 runs, 2 earned.

Aiding the Phillies’ cause, San Francisco starter Webb has been suspect this season, carrying a 4.86 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP across 37 innings.

The Phillies have had a rough stretch, going 2-8 in their past 10 games, but yesterday’s offensive breakout felt like a turning point. With Webb laboring and Sanchez missing bats at a high rate, Philadelphia has a clear edge on the mound.

Take the Phillies on the moneyline to secure another victory at home.

Giants vs Phillies Top Player Prop Bets

Cristopher Sánchez Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+113 on DraftKings): Sánchez struck out 6 Giants in 5 innings earlier this season. He is averaging 11.50 strikeouts per nine innings. If he pitches into the 7th inning tonight — not a given, considering he hasn’t gotten an out there yet this season — eclipsing this total provides excellent plus-money value.

Bryce Harper Over 1.5 Total Bases (+120 on DraftKings): Harper had 2 hits last night — including the double — and is slugging .509 this season. He’s 4-for-8 lifetime vs. Webb. We expect more good swings tonight.

Kyle Schwarber Over 0.5 Home Runs (+310 on BetMGM): We’ve correctly called two Schwarbombs this season. (We’ve swung and missed, too.) He’s hit 1 career home run off Webb, too. Blame it on the euphoria of nailing all 3 recommended bets yesterday — most notably a Phillies win — but we’re riding the good vibes and calling for Schwarber’s 10th homer of the season.
