A player being traded away and ending up overseas was Sam Hinkie’s M.O., but maybe Matt Klentak picked up on some things. Darin Ruf was traded to the Dodgers in a deal that netted the Phillies Howie Kendrick. Unfortunately for him, the Dodgers didn’t really have the roster spot – nor the desire to give him one anyway – and he’ll be spending this year in South Korea.

Ruf will get more money – and much more playing time – with the Samsung Lions of the Korean Baseball Organization than he would have ever gotten with the Dodgers. According to Matt Gelb, Ruf joins Jimmy Paredes, Elvis Araujo, David Buchanan, Frank Herrmann and Phil Klein as other 2015 Phillies that will be playing overseas this year. Maybe there’s more Hinkie in him than we thought.
