The Phils made a trade after Adolis Garcia came out of Wednesday night’s game with a shoulder injury:

Hill is a depth guy who plays multiple outfield positions. He’s appeared in 50 games for the White Sox this season, and while he only slashes .213/.284/.375, he hits lefties well. He’s got a .250 average and .790 OPS in those situations, so the Phils might be setting up a platoon here. Dunno. We’ll see. Maybe they have a blockbuster move for MIKE TROUT in the works.

Here’s the full release from the Phils:

The Phillies have acquired outfielder Derek Hill and international bonus pool money from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for outfielder Dylan Campbell and infielder Jose Colmenares. To make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Jackson Rutledgewas designated for assignment.

The 30-year-old Hill played in 50 games for the White Sox this year and slashed .213/.284/.375 (.659 OPS) while appearing at all three outfield positions. The 6-foot, right-handed hitter has a career slash line of .272/.317/.463 (.780 OPS) against left-handed pitching and also has an average sprint speed of 29.2 feet per second, which ranks in the 94th percentile in the majors. A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Hill was originally a first-round selection (23rd overall) by the Detroit Tigers in the 2014 MLB Draft and has played in 268 games across seven major league seasons with a .227/.278/.351 slash line.

Campbell, 23, slashed .215/.293/.381 (.674 OPS) in 177 games for high-A Jersey Shore and double-A Reading in the Phillies organization after being acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for international bonus pool space on Jan. 17, 2025. The Houston native was originally selected by the Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2023 MLB Draft.

The 24-year-old Colmenares was signed by the Phillies as a minor league free agent on Aug. 14, 2025. A native of Venezuela, he played in 53 games for Jersey Shore over the last two seasons, posting a .255/.359/.402 (.761 OPS) slash line. Colmenareswas originally signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent on July 2, 2018.

Rutledge, 27, posted a 7.20 ERA (4 ER, 5.0 IP) in five relief appearances for triple-A Lehigh Valley after being claimed off waivers by the Phillies from the Washington Nationals on May 10. The Fenton, Mo., native was originally selected by Washington in the first round (17th overall) of the 2019 MLB Draft.
