Prior to tonight’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Phillies announced the following roster moves:

  • Recalled outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr. from triple-A Lehigh Valley
  • Placed outfielder Adolis García on the 60-day injured list with a right latissimus dorsi tear
  • Outfielder Derek Hill reported to the club
  • Placed outfielder Steward Berroa on the paternity list

Bummer for Garcia, who was starting to figure it out at the plate. A handful of big home runs this month, six RBIs, got himself above the Mendoza Line for a minute. Now he’s out with a lat tear.

The Phils didn’t reveal what grade the tear is, but grades 1 and 2 don’t require surgery and take 2-8 weeks for a full recovery. Grade 3 is typically surgery followed by 6-14 months of rehab.

Rincones Jr. is hitting .239 in Lehigh Valley this year. That’s across 55 plate appearances. He slashed .240/.370/.430 last season. Hill hasn’t been amazing in Chicago, but he hits lefties well and we’ll see what the plan is when Don Mattingly speaks later.
