The Phillies Phantastic Auction Winner Who Called an Inning on the Radio Was Fantastic

During the third inning of Wednesday night’s game against the Nationals, Phillies Phantastic Auction winner Lewis Kalb joined Scott Franzke and Larry Andersen in the radio booth. While many others who have tried this feat often get lambasted by the public, Kalb was getting rave reviews after his appearance. He actually sounded like he belonged. It was almost as if he had done this before. As I was listening, it felt a little… Vin Scully-esque, dare I say. The cadence. The attention to detail for radio. The quick-wittedness.
Word on the street is that this wasn’t Big Lew’s first rodeo. He has experience calling youth sporting events in Medford Lakes for a long time. They’re also saying he did some work with the Mets back in the day. I think I might want to hear Big Lew call an entire Mets game this season. He was an absolute joy to listen to. The Phillies should bring him back in for the playoffs [if they make it].

Some highlights:
- He is not a former firefighter nor cop
- Took him two hours to dry off from all the rain, just in time to join the booth
- The lakes in Medford Lakes are filled to capacity from all that rain
- Introducing Arraez
- “A plan is in order” for a possible rain delay right before the inning ends. Could you imagine him taking phone calls with Murph?
I almost wish he called the extra innings. I kinda wanted to hear him go into Kyle Schwarber a little bit. Dude’s clearly hurt. And actively hurting his team. An at-bat that caused a possible season-altering domino effect. Maybe I’m overreacting. But maybe listening to Mr. Kalb would have put me at ease. Or made me angrier. Too bad he didn’t call Arraez’s homer.
