I can’t believe it. He’s taking $4 million a year to play here? What else did they offer him? Free membership to Pine Valley, Merion, and Aronimink? Free use of the Josh Harris helicopter? Did they give him a 25% stake in Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment?

Spit balling some things out loud –

Obviously Joel needs to stay healthy. But when he’s not out there, they have LeBron James, Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey, and V.J. Edgecombe. So you can, uh, win plenty of games with those four guys and a backup center. Philon Jr. off the bench with Wade and Simons and those guys. Rotational options galore.

LeBron took about 15 shots per game last season with the Lakers. Career low. He went to the line 5.3 times per game and tossed 7.8 assists per 36 minutes. He’s always been a high-level passer and facilitator and he’s going to pick out these other guys and get them their looks. There’s enough to go around for Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey, LeBron, and Joel. V.J. may have to take a back seat, and/or get his shots up in staggered looks. Nick Nurse has a lot to figure out here, but these are all good problems to have. Quentin Grimes and Kelly Oubre were taking 10 shots a game last season, so yeah, it’s gonna look a lot different this year.

Xfinity Mobile Arena is gonna be rocking this winter. Good god almighty. LeBron is a Sixer. The Flyers are a playoff team. Imagine if the Leo Carlsson offer sheet had worked out? It would be nightly viewing. It still is nightly viewing.

another macro level thought –

The Sixers won 24 games two seasons ago. It looked like they were gonna be stuck on the Embiid and Paul George contracts and have to ride those while losing key Maxey years at the same time. Then they landed Edgecombe, swapped P.G. for Jaylen Brown, and got LeBron in free agency. That is an insane turnaround. They went from dead in the water and firing Daryl Morey to a title favorite.
