Temple, Penn State, Delaware, Villanova, and Penn Had an 0-5 Football Weekend

All five teams lost. Two of them blew second-half home leads.
Army 21, Temple 17
Temple just doesn’t know how to finish a game. That’s twice in two weeks now that they’ve had a late lead and couldn’t get the job done.
Last week, it was a two-touchdown collapse in Toledo, and this time it was a 17-14 lead with about seven minutes remaining and they let Army come down the field 75 yards on 12 plays for a touchdown. All 12 plays were runs, as Army is going to do. The Temple offense responded with an eight-play, 51 yard drive to reach the Army 23, then threw incomplete on 3rd and 2 and 4th and 2 and that was all she wrote.
Temple missed a field goal in this game and failed on a fourth down try on the opening drive. Poor play call, to run the ball on 4th and 4 at that moment. The margins are razor thin at this level and they just leave too many opportunities on the table. Too many plays on the field.
Their bowl game hopes are pretty much shot at this point. The Owls could very easily be 3-1, but they’re 1-3 with unbeaten USF up next, and on the road. The Owls will likely be 1-4 by the time UConn and Charlotte come to town.
Virginia 42, Delaware 3
The score doesn’t matter. Hens quarterback Nick Minicucci went down with a non-contact injury and did not return.
If he’s done for the season, no update yet, Delaware might not do much this year, which is a bummer because they looked pretty good in their first three games and looked the part of a contender in Conference USA.
Wisconsin 24, Penn State 20
Ugly.
Penn State went into this game as a two-score home favorite and blew a 17-0 lead. Wisconsin’s quarterback, Colton Joseph, threw three interceptions and a pick-six before the Badgers got away with a blatant offensive pass interference on their game-winning touchdown, which featured a missed tackle on an incredibly slow 72-yard strike:
Rocco Becht played a poor game. He ran the ball 10 times for 23 yards and a score but finished 12-29 in passing for 114 yards with a pick. The only offensive touchdown came after one of those interceptions, which set up PSU on the Wisconsin 11. After going up 17-0, Penn State went punt/interception/field goal/punt/punt/punt/downs and that was it. No rhythm, no explosives, nothing really cooking for that offense.
Penn State is gonna have its hands full at Northwestern on Friday night. That Wildcats team clubbed Colorado and really battled Indiana in Bloomington on Saturday.
Lehigh 20, Penn 7
The Quakers put up a good fight at home against 4-0 Lehigh, which was ranked 6th in the country coming in.
They held the Mountain Hawks to three punts and a turnover on downs in the first half, but Penn’s offense couldn’t do anything against a superior team, and Lehigh finally pulled away in the third quarter. Rookie Miles Teodecki finished 18 for 37 for 133 yards and two picks, and Penn ran the ball 28 times for just 49 yards.
Colgate 28, Villanova 21
Just hasn’t been good enough for the Wildcats, who got Pat McQuaide back after the legal fiasco to begin the season. They’re super-inconsistent on offense and finished this game with a sequence of interception/punt/touchdown/fumble/downs. They should be a lot better than they are.
To be fair, we probably knew the Cats weren’t gonna do much this season after their ridiculous Week 1 choke job. Then they barely got past Bucknell and Long Island on the road. They still have to play Lehigh and Richmond, who are a combined 9-1. We may be better off putting our money into online slot games vs. wagering it on Nova football.
