The Hottest Team in Major League Soccer is the Philadelphia Union

Doop Doop to your broke ass, as the Philadelphia Union win again, this time 2-0 at home over Montreal.
They scored a greasy goal after Danley Jean-Jacques cleaned up a set piece in the box, then Cavan Sullivan jumped on a rebound to score his third goal in three games:
That’s six wins, two draws, and zero losses for the Union since the World Cup break, which ended in late July. They’ve taken 20 of the 24 available points, a 2.5 points-per-game mark. That’s 2004 Arsenal levels of PPG. The U won the Supporters Shield in 2025 and 2020 with 1.94 PPG and 2.04 PPG, so you see just how hot they are in the Ryan Richter era.
In fact, if the playoffs began today, the U would go in as the 9th seed and play Orlando City in the 8/9 Wild Card game. Winner of that gets a crack at red-hot Nashville in the 1 vs. 8 game, which would be super fun. Nashville is on a tear of their own and might set the single-season points record if they keep it going.
The schedule gets a little tougher coming up. They have to play Cincinnati at home on Wednesday. Cincy is 6th in the East but has underperformed this season. Then they play at San Diego and at Kansas City. San Diego is a middle-of-the-pack Western Conference team and KC stinks, but back-to-back road games can be iffy. From there, it’s Orlando and RSL at home. They still have to play at Nashville and at Chicago, which is tough.
But if they keep this form going they’ll make the playoffs. It’s very clumpy, with six points separating seven teams in the East.
