Cavan Sullivan scored twice in the Union’s 5-0 road win against San Diego on Sunday night:
Five goals and seven assists in the 16-year-old’s last seven games. He’s started every MLS match since the World Cup break and logged 820 minutes in that time frame.
The Union are now unbeaten in their last 10 league games with eight wins and two draws. They’ve taken 26 of 30 points to climb to 7th in the Eastern Conference, all the way up from 15th. They’d play Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in a three-game series if the playoffs began today.
For now, it’ll be Union vs. Kansas City on Saturday night in KC, and KC totally stinks. They’ve won five games all season long and have the fewest points of all 30 teams in Major League Soccer. If the U win or draw out there, they will tie the franchise-record 11-game unbeaten streak that was set by last year’s Shield-winning team. Not even the 2022 Union went unbeaten for that long. They did win 11 out of 13 games during the season’s mid-point, but that was dotted with two losses that broke up the streak.
This is one of the best runs the Union have ever been on. Nobody wants to play them right now.
