The Union Will Win the Title if They Sign “Wawa” Out of the Swedish League
Good eye from Brai right here:
Wawa Christ! He is the lord and savior of all gas stations.
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one gets out on the counterattack except through me.”
Wawa is a 19-year-old Ivorian forward and rated as a 62 on FIFA. Ryan Richter and the Union coaching staff would turn him into a 70 or a 75 in no time. They’ve signed plenty of guys out of Sweden before, so presumably they have eyes on Wawa and are tracking his development.
Interestingly enough, on some websites the name is reversed. They’ve got him listed as “Christ Wawa,” which could be an even better name.
Maybe artificial intelligence will murder us all some day, but for the time being, it is very beneficial in explaining West African linguistics:
The variation in how the BK Häcken attacker’s name is displayed highlights the exact intersection of West African naming standards, French colonial administration, and European sports media tracking.
- The Ivorian Administrative Order: In the Ivory Coast (a francophone country), official civil registries and identification documents strict list the surname first. His full name is registered as Wawa Christ Ivan Alex.
- Data Ingestion by Sports Databases: Automated data aggregators and statistics platforms like Sofascore scrape local roster sheets or competition registries exactly as they appear officially, leading to the Wawa Christ configuration.
- Western Media Standardization: International platforms like ESPN and Transfermarkt manually or algorithmically flip the order to Christ Wawa to align with the standard Western “Given Name + Surname” display format.
- The Shirt Name: On the back of his jersey, he wears Wawa, confirming it functions as his family name.
Makes sense. You learn something new every day.
Now – it’s obvious what should happen here. The Union should make a European double move. They should swoop in for Christ Wawa and AZ Alkmaar forward Jizz Hornkamp. Could you imagine these two in Chester? Jizz and Wawa would tear it up. They’d be the most formidable attacking duo in Major League Soccer:

Kevin has been writing about Philadelphia sports since 2009. He spent seven years in the CBS 3 sports department and started with the Union during the team's 2010 inaugural season. He went to the academic powerhouses of Boyertown High School and West Virginia University. email - k.kinkead@sportradar.com
