Oh, Just a Bear at My Local Wawa

You know, I’m beginning to question this whole residing in Horsham thing. I mean, sure, I called the meth lab at the Days Inn and found it more hilarious than concerning. But there are a few things I don’t do, and one of them is bears. I don’t do bears.

From 6 ABC:

Police say several people spotted a bear in the rear parking lot of the Wawa on Route 611 at County Line Road.

It happened at 2:00 a.m. Friday.

Witnesses said the animal after a few minutes in the parking lot the animal headed southeast along County Line Road and disappeared into some woods.

Police are warning people to stay away from the bear if it’s spotted again.

‘Sus Christ! Thanks for the tip to stay away from it– I was uncertain what I should do in that situation.

If you see Yogi, take a picture call police RUN!

A Guy From New England Won Wing Bowl Just as News Broke That El Wingador Had Been Indicted on Cocaine Charges

If there was ever an example of large, non-athlete masses imitating the misery that is Philly sports… it would be the time Smarty Jones lost the Triple Crown. But if there was another… it would be today’s Wing Bowl-related developments: A New Englander called The Bear won Philly’s own event, edging out local favorite Super Squibb in front of 22,000 drunk and partially naked Philadelphians while news broke that the city’s avian-eating hero, El Wingador, a former truck driver from New Jersey, was indicted on cocaine charges.

It’s always sunny here.

Joe Green of the South Jersey Times:

Five-time Wing Bowl champion Bill “El Wingador” Simmons was indicted this week on cocaine distribution charges filed in June.

Simmons, 51, is charged with four counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) and one count of manufacturing or distribution of more than a half ounce of cocaine.

He’s also charged with six counts of manufacturing or distribution of more than a half ounce and less than five ounces of the drug and two counts of manufacturing less than half an ounce.

News of Simmons’ arrest first broke in June, so none of this is a surprise, and it’s probably not a coincidence that his indictment was announced, literally, just as Wing Bowl 21 was beginning. Love you, Philadelphia things.

Previously: I got this ridiculous press release about El Wingador

Ilya Bryzgalov Would Like You To Know That He’s No Longer Afraid Of Bears

The last time Ilya Bryzgalov tweeted was 100 days ago, before he turned his season around from borderline disaster to setting the Flyers’ all-time shutout streak record.

We figured we probably wouldn’t hear from him again – at least on the interwebtuals – until after the playoffs, whenever that may be for the Flyers (so, June…).

We were wrong.

Bryz, who is smarter than he looks and deceptively self-aware, fired out a link to this picture Saturday night, a direct reference to his comment about only being afraid of bears who reside in the forest:

Bryz_bear

Now how can you be afraid of that? The answer is you can’t. Not when the Flyers are up 2-0 and a bunch of Pittsburgh folks are stuck with life-sized bear costumes to find a use for.

Ladies and gentlemen, your new victory .GIF. Thrust away, little guy. Thrust away.

H/T to the several folks who alerted us to Bryz's Tweet

Ilya Bryzgalov: “I’m Only Afraid of Bear, But Bear in the Forest”

Kyle Scott - April 9, 2012

Outstanding.

Before the bear comment, Bryzgalov was asked if the season would be a failure if the Flyers lost. His response:

"You know, I can’t comment because we’re not even playing. Why you start asking the questions like this? We’re not even start to play and you already prepared the crowd, people. Why do you start [shit*]? Think positive, guys."

*Not 100% sure that’s what he said, but the bleep and context clues help.

That video, edited by CSN, is after the jump [1:05 mark].

Not on the Bandwagon Yet

Kyle Scott - November 7, 2011

Photo: KFC. Really.

Adam Reigner, producer at WIP, is spitting fire over Jason Avant’s comments. Oh yeah, he’s not back on the bandwagon yet, either. This is his weekly rant.

So, Jason Avant doesn’t want me back on the bandwagon.

That’s cool, it’s not the first time I’ve been rejected.

It’s not a popular opinion, but I actually agree with him in one regard. This city is a front running city– just like every other city in America. When the Sixers were making runs with Iverson you couldn’t buy a ticket. When the Phillies considered themselves a small market team they gave away tickets with hot dogs. There is absolutely nothing wrong with not showing up to a losing product. As a matter of fact, it’s actually your duty as a fan to do as such. The only way to make the owners change is to influence their bottom line.

So it may not make you happy as a player in this city, but it is exactly what a fan is supposed to do. Could you imagine if we rewarded lousy play or terrible execution? You expect more from yourself and so do we. When we ride you– man up.

I will, though, defend anybody’s right to give their opinion, and Avant is no different.

I am the fan he was talking about. I have actively rooted for whomever the Eagles were playing against since the Birds started 1-4 (really). You think a two-game win streak against a terrible Redskins team and a Cowboys team that trots out Tony Romo every week is going to change my mind?

To steal a quote from Ray Didinger, “You’re three and four.”
