Charlie Manuel Pulls J-Roll For…. Wait For It… Not Hustling

Ryan Gillon - August 30, 2012

Video is fixed. (Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia)

Tell me if you've heard this one before

Jimmy Rollins didn't hustle again. This time, Charlie Manuel did something about it during the game.

As you can see in the video, there's a good chance J-Roll's actions cost the Phils a run. Just two weeks ago, in Miami, he got heat for not running out a play against the Marlins. The dude just doesn't fucking get it.

Some of you noticed, too.

I think that last one may have been my favorite…

…maybe the Fanatic has another billboard coming.

Because Bad News for Nyjer Morgan Amuses Me

Ryan Gillon - March 24, 2011

I'm not sure how much you'll be seeing resident jackass Nyjer Morgan at CBP this year…

Nyjer Morgan made himself very hard to like in the second half of the 2010 season. First, he was suspended for allegedly throwing a ball at a Phillies fan. A week later, he started a brawl with the Florida Marlins after a pitch sailed behind him at the plate. And in October, he was named one of the 12 dirtiest athletes by FOX Sports.

We're talking the epitome of class here, people.

Depsite looking forward to rebounding from what "wasn't a Nyjer Morgan year" in 2010, it seems that Morgan may start the season on the bench because the Nationals have "reached a near-final decision" in favor of journeyman Rick Ankiel. Aaron Gleeman of Hardball Talk has the skinny on the two players:

Ankiel grades out considerably worse than Morgan defensively and has hit just .232 with a ghastly .298 on-base percentage and .388 slugging percentage in 196 games over then past two years. Morgan has hit .279 with a .343 OBP during that time, although certainly Ankiel brings far more power to the table.

Heh. Morgan was also tied for third in stolen bases last year, and he still will probably get benched (that is if he's not sent to the minors or traded). Did you see that tidbit there that Ankiel doesn't even have a .300 OBP? I'm laughing to myself right now.

I guess karma is a bitch for real winners like Nyjer Morgan. You can't allegedly throw a baseball at a Phillies fan if you're not on the field… or the team.

UPDATE: Donovan McNabb Benched in Favor of Rex Grossman, Now Third String

Kyle Scott - December 17, 2010

Stop me if you've seen this face before

UPDATE: Pro Football Talk reports that McNabb is now the third string quarterback.

I want to see John Beck,” Shanahan said.  “John Beck has been exceptional in practice. I want to see him in No. 2 role.”

Amazing.  It should be noted that the Redskins are not on the hook to pay McNabb more than a small amount if they cut him before next season.

It's like we sold Washington a lemon and now they can't get a refund.  Finally somebody else is learning that Donovan McNabb is generally unaccountable, inaccurate, and chokes in tight spots.

Jason LaCanfora (@JasonLaCanfora) of confirmed the move and said the players are pissed:

Confirming Rex Grossman will start for Redskins. Many players believe ccordinator Kyle Shanahan using McNabb as a scapegoat.  Players are very upset over this decision and Kyle Shanahan facing credibility issues in that locker room, players said. Of the decision to start Grossman over McNabb, one player told me, "the guys in the locker room are extremely pissed." Not a good scene in DC at all.

Team McNabb is not happy:  [Washington Post]

"Disrespectful is probably not strong enough of a word," Fletcher N. Smith, McNabb's representative, said in a lengthy phone interview Friday. "Donovan has handled himself with nothing but class, not just in Washington but as an ambassador for the league. To treat him this way … it's beyond disrespectful."

Errybody makes mistakes in they lifetime.  And the Redskins made theirs this year.

Beeker Down

Kyle Scott - December 3, 2010

Coach Doug Collins just informed the press that Evan Turner will be out of tonight's starting lineup. His replacement?  Andres Nocioni or Jodi Meeks.

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2010 Philadephia 76ers.

Beeker is ‘Bout to Get Benched, Flyers Film Verizon Ad at The Well

Kyle Scott - December 2, 2010

Evan Turner hasn't exactly been lighting up the scoreboard of late.  He scored just one point in 19 minutes on Tuesday… and that might be enough to get Beeker benched:  [Philly Sports Daily]

“He’s not playing well right now,” Collins said. “When we dig ourselves a hole, I’ve got to go with somebody else. Minutes are precious. We’ve got a little pit bull over there wants to play.”

That would be second-year man Jodie Meeks…

“Evan is struggling to fit in with ‘Dre and Jrue,” Collins said. “He has not played his best basketball with that threesome. He’s just not comfortable off the ball right now. As a result, offensively, he becomes a standstill jump shooter, which is not the best part of his game.”

There you have it, Evan Turner could be benched for Jodie Meeks.  This Sixers season is off to a rousing start, yo.

Of course, perhaps Turner is timid playing with ball hog Iguodala.  Who would want to deal with this?

Meanwhile at The Well, crews were shooting a Verizon commercial.  I suppose they left out the AT&T Pavilion.

Danny Briere, Scott Hartnell, and Mike Richards were a part of it as well.  Commercial was a spoof on the Flyers going 82-0 and keeping beards throughout.

McNabb Benched for Two-Minute Drill

Kyle Scott - November 1, 2010

Heh.  Yeah, that sounds about right.

With 1:50 remaining in yesterday's Redskins game, Donovan McNabb was benched in favor of Rex Grossman (??), who coach Mike Shanahan thought had a better chance of leading the team to victory.  [Philly Sports Daily]

"I thought (Grossman) gave us the best chance to win."

Grossman fumbled on his first play and the Lions went on to beat the 'Skins 37-25.

McNabb was, as usual, very professional in his response (well, at least publicly, he seems to be a little more raw behind closed doors).

"When you get benched, you get benched," McNabb said. "Just have to learn from it and move on."

"I continue to focus as if I'm the starter," he added. "He said I'm still the starter."

Because Rex stinks.

I'm not so sure Shanahan thinks having two unreliable quarterbacks is a "beautiful thing."
