Here’s Ilya Bryzgalov Wearing a Flyers Hat

Kyle Scott - July 15, 2011

And pants! Here's our man (yes, we can say that now because we actually have a goalie) Bryz coaching kids at his goalie camp in Mother Russia. Got to love the Bryz reppin' the Flyers.

But about those sandals…

In Soviet Russia, sandal cradle toe!

What Does This Mean?

Get used to this guy

In trading Richards and Carter and signing Bryzgalov to a 9-year, $51 million deal, the salary cap now looks like this, according to CapGeek.com:

Next year's cap: $64,300,000

Flyers payroll as it stands now: $56,723,095. That doesn't include Jakub Voracek and Wayne Simmonds, who are both restricted free agents. They will both most likely re-sign for about a total of $2-3 million. That leaves roughly $6 million left for the Flyers to round out the roster or make another move via free agency.

UPDATE: The original post included Michael Leighton, who will most likely be waived. If that happens, his $1.5 million contract would come off the cap and free up closer to $8 million.

Brayden Schenn is a very highly-regarded youngster who is the key to this deal. The Flyers also added a number of valuable draft picks, and, of course, Byrzgalov.

When you look at it in terms of what they gave up and what they got, it's pretty good:

Flyers lose:

Mike Richards, captain, 60-80 point scorer

Jeff Carter, 30+ goal scorer

Get:

Brayden Schenn, highly touted youngster

Wayne Simmonds, 30-40 points per seson

*Jakub Voracek, 40-50 points per season

*Three draft picks

Ilya Bryzgalov

$8 million in cap space (after signing Voracek and Simmonds and releasing Leighton)

It's a difficult argument. They traded young veterans -who almost won the Stanley Cup – for unproven youth, a goalie, and flexibility.

The more I look at it, the more I like it. The Flyers have some flexibility… and they may not be done.

Your Complete Rams and Saints NFC Championship Game Betting Preview

The Rams and Saints will meet on Sunday afternoon in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome with a trip to Super Bowl 53 on the line. If the rematch possesses the intensity of the first meeting between the two teams, a 45-35 Saints win back in November, then we should be in for quite a game. That leads us to perhaps the most important question ahead of what’s expected to be another high-scoring shootout between two of the

Premier League Picks Week 23

You can analyze trends and probabilities all you like. You can diagnose a match to within an inch of its life. But there are certain things you really can’t account for. Before shutting out an impotent Newcastle United on January 2, Manchester United hadn’t kept a clean sheet in the league in their prior seven matches. The Red Devils went to Wembley last weekend to take on Tottenham Hotspur. Goals aplenty, right? Yeah, no: 11

Here’s the Phillies 2011 Stars and Stripes Hat

Kyle Scott - May 11, 2011

For the fourth season in a row, MLB teams will wear Stars and Stripes caps on Memorial Day, 4th of July weekend, and 9/11.

Major League Baseball will donate a whopping $1 of their roughly $20 profit (I used to work on their site) on each hat sold to the Welcome Back Veterans fund.

The first year these hats were released, they were quickly put on backorder, as the blue design was unique and worked with most color schemes. Since then, they've released red, white, and now red and white versions. The second version – red – didn't sell nearly as well, and, thanks to New Era's MAP pricing, we had to come up with creative shipping discounts to move the hats. I'm guessing the white ones from last year suffered a similar fate. This year's version, with the red brim and backing, is a small improvement.

Want one? Here's a 10% code for you to use at the MLB Shop. Click this link and enter code vote2011 at checkout. It will take 10% off the order. A dollar will still go to Welcome Back Veterans.
