Bryce Harper Lives!

Russ Joy - March 17, 2019

While sitting at church this morning, I contemplated the fates of our Philly teams as of late: Nick Foles is officially gone; the Flyers have been all-but-officially eliminated from postseason contention; within a six-hour period this afternoon/evening the Sixers could fall to 0-2 against the Bucks and the Union could drop to 0-3 on the season when they take on the defending-MLS champion Atlanta United; oh yeah, Bryce Harper nearly had his foot/ankle shattered by some punk… The bright green of the Phanatic and orange of Gritty had faded to dull grey and sepia tones… Everything appeared to have been lost.

Well, hear ye, hear ye! On this Second Sunday of Lent, our [Phillies] savior is risen! Perhaps it’s the luck of the Irish, but here we are.

LOOK AT HIM! LOOK. AT. HIM.

The height of the jumps, the fluidity of his motion. It’s unprecedented. Anyway, he worked a solid first at-bat and… struck out looking. There’s still time.

Crossing Broadcast: The Bryce Harper Effect

Russ Joy - March 5, 2019

Bob and Russ discuss the lasting effect of signing Bryce Harper and how much of a draw it will be for casual fans. They break down the pressure Harper’s signing can take off Maikel Franco, Odubel Herrera, and Scott Kingery, project the lineup, the rotation, and discuss bullpen issues. The guys also look to the free agent market for possible reinforcements.

With “Remote” Chance of Signing Bryce Harper, Should the Phillies Pivot to the Mound?

Russ Joy - February 27, 2019

I’ve woken up the last two days with skull-splitting migraines.

Maybe it’s the weather. Or the allergens that surround me. Or the sinus infection. Or maybe, just maybe, it’s Harper Watch 2019. Yeah, that’s the one.

We’ve been riding a high for the last few weeks with reports of John Middleton flying to Las Vegas to meet with one of the few superstars in baseball, one who more than just the casual fan of America’s pastime can recognize away from the field. But with every passing day since Middleton’s plane departed Vegas late Saturday night, the Harpermania many felt in their hards has lost its luster. It’s dulling.

Like the start of a cold, we started with denial. “Maybe he’s sending the plane back for Klentak and Kapler.” Then Jim Salisbury reported Middleton was on the plane, “Well… he probably made a good impression”. Lump in the throat. In the four days that have followed, we’ve succumbed to the illness. We’ve awoken with that 300 lb. weight imploring us to stay in bed, as if to stay away from the news and the most recent “reports” from Mo Rocca Jon Heyman. We’ve fought with friends and loved ones when the Dodgers reportedly came back into the picture. Your uncle said, “JUST SHOW HIM THE MONEY! GET IT DONE!” Then this report came out:

You’ve had that doubt lurking in the back of your mind, and now it’s whispering in your ear, “Maybe he never wanted Philly…” You listened to music to drown out the doubt. Then this, after the jump:

Bryce Harper Wants Giancarlo Stanton to Play for the Nats, Forgets About Current Right Fielder

You’re not the only one who, when the Marlins sold off their franchise yesterday, thought that Giancarlo Stanton would make a good fit for your team. One Washington National, one Mr. Bryce Harper, Brycecakes, also felt that way, and he let Giancarlo know about it on the Twitters:

Besides that being the fruitiest Tweet of all-time, let's talk about the possibility of the Marlins trading Stanton, too: The fact of the matter is, Stanton makes less than a million dollars and won’t be arbitration eligible until 2014. If the Marlins want their attendance numbers to soar into the tens next year, then keeping Stanton around might be a good idea. After that, however… well, I’m sure the fish will be biting.

When asked for comment about Harper’s Tweet, Jayson Werth, the Nats' current right fielder, the same position that Stanton plays, offered only the following:
