Signs of a Lockout: This Looks Like Scott Hartnell and Peter Luukko Tailgating Before the Eagles Game

Kyle Scott - October 15, 2012

After posting this pic in the Monday Afternoon Roundup, I noticed that the person talking to Scott Hartnell looked familiar. Upon closer inspection, it appears to be Peter Luukko, Comcast Spectacor COO.

As best as I understand it, teams and players are allowed to have contact during the lockout, but not in any sort of official or business capacity. And judging by the beverage in Luukko’s hand and Hartnell’s 90-degree elbow bend, it seems that this was nothing more than casual conversation, which I'm sure touched on the current work stoppage completely avoided the current labor dispute.

Hartnell, of course, has nothing to be worried about. The Flyers signed him to a six-year extension before the lockout.

Reader Christian, who took the picture, also said that Kimmo Timonen and “Hatcher” were there. But that’s hard to tell from the picture.

UPDATE: Hartnell also rode the bull at PBR:

And of course, if you have video, we'd love to see it.

Signs of a Lockout: Flyers Offer Interest on Season Ticket Payments, Players Rent Out Ice at Skate Zone

If you have Flyers season tickets, you’ve probably been wondering what your options will be, since, you know, they may never play hockey again.

If you don’t (have tickets), you probably don’t give two shits. But we’re going to tell you anyway.

The Flyers have two offers for season ticket holders. From their website:

  • All previous payments on your Flyers account to date shall remain on account through
the duration of the work stoppage and shall earn 2% simple interest, a significant increase over current bank rates.
  • Interest shall accrue beginning September 16th and shall end on the date an announcement is made finalizing the start of the 2012-13 NHL season. Interest will be calculated based on your total paid value as of September 16th.

  • Receive month by month, partial refunds of the amount paid to date on your Flyers account through the duration of the work stoppage.
  • Refunds will be issued for the total paid value for games canceled each month (calculated assuming 44 games scheduled for the Wells Fargo Center) and will be issued in a lump sum by the 15th of the subsequent month. Refunds will be processed in the same manner (i.e., refunded to credit card or by check) payment was received. Interest does not apply.

I would say those are fairly generous, especially when you consider that we’re still a month out from when the regular season was scheduled to begin. But, other teams are doing better. According to Chicago Tribune writer Chris Kuc, teams such as Montreal and Calgary are giving 3%, Columbus 4%, and the Wild 10% interest.

A more disheartening sign of the lockout, perhaps, is this: the Flyers rented the Skate Zone ice today to hold a practice on their own, according to reports. They will do so tomorrow, too. They won’t be given access to any other areas of the team-owned complex, including the locker room. And, even worse, the NHL ordered Flyers management to not show up at Scott Hartnell’s charity golf tournament today. MONEY!

Flyers Sign Scott Hartnell to Six-Year Extension

Not more than a few minutes after we posted the latest installment of Where’s Scott Hartnell?!, the Flyers announced that they signed Hartnell to a six-year extension.

Flyers inside reporter Anthony SanFilippo says the cap hit is $5.5 million per year. In other words, a $33 million deal. UPDATE: Tim Panaccio is reporting that the average annual value is $4.75 million a year, which would mean Hartnell's deal is worth $28.5 million, not $33 million.

If Panaccio’s figures are accurate, this is a good deal for the Flyers. Sure, they’re banking on Hartnell repeating the best season of his career, which he had last year, and being effective through 2019, but his cap hit is manageable for a 30-year-old capable of scoring 30 goals per season.

The funny part of all this is that owners are asking for a maximum of five year deals in the new CBA–you know, the one that is likely going to delay the start of the season. Paul Holmgren, of course, doesn’t care and is handing out six-year contracts like it’s his job (in fact, it is…). Wayne Simmonds got one last week.

Riley Cote, who is on a crusade to legalize hemp (for realstons), got married last weekend. Dan Carcillo, Scott Hartnell and Stanley Cup Champion Jeff Carter were all in the wedding party. Car Bomb didn’t bother to comb his hair for the occasion and Carts appears to have found the Casio watch I misplaced… in 1992. But hey, he’s a Stanley Cup champ and can pretty much do whatever he damn well pleases. Hartnell, though, looks like was holding up fairly well at the end of the night. This other guy? Not so much:

Last year, we told you about some Flyers taking part in a Judd Apatow film. Here’s the trailer for This is 40, which includes Scott Hartnell and Ian Laperriere. James van Riemsdyk was also there, and he may be in the shot as well. Around the 2:20 mark. Don’t blink.

Where’s Scott Hartnell?!

Riding a horse… on the beach… in Hawaii… wearing a Philly Phaithful t-shirt!

Scott Hartnell continued with his BlackBerry Playbook promotional videos, this time shooting in Hawaii with Brayden Schenn (now on Twitter @Bschenn10), a horse, and a female companion wearing a “Down & Dirty” #hartnelldown shirt:

Having a chick wear a tank top with what can be considered a loose sexual reference is hot enough. Having her wear one with your own personal brand on it is a level that can't be reached by non-athletes and celebrities.

Hartnell's attire was just as awesome. He had on his very own Kimmo Timo t-shirt from our friends at Philly Phaithful. Notice:

Gratuitous reminder: You can get one here.

Unrelated reminder: Mike Richards and Jeff Carter will be playing for the Stanley Cup, tonight at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Scott Hartnell’s Latest Blackberry Video Pokes Fun at Matt Carle’s Defensive Abilities

Kyle Scott - May 25, 2012

Screen Shot 2012-05-25 at 11.24.58 AM

For a while now, we’ve been chronicling Scott Hartnell’s adventures thanks to a promotion with Blackberry and the NHLPA

Today, Hartnell tweeted out a link to his latest two videos, Scott Hartnell’s World of Wildlife. It’s mostly several minutes of Hartnell overload, but features a delightful (and presumably friendly but oh-so-perfect) shot at Matt Carle, cast as a pylon in these videos. Of course, the pylon displayed better situational awareness than the Flyers defenseman. Behold:

Outside a Center City hotel… near 15th and Market… getting creeped on by reader Matt, who took a self-pic with the All-Star forward!!!

Frightening. Matt should probably shave his playoff beard… like, yesterday.

We’ll just cross our fingers that Hartnell isn't having his hair harvested (boom, alliteration) for Matt's future playoff beards or lying on the ground in Matt’s walk-in freezer, cut up into a million pieces.

Assuming Hartnell’s not dead or having his locks pulled out one-by-one, here’s a reminder to vote for him and Claude Giroux for the cover of NHL 13. Hartnell is going against Evgeni Malkin, whose cover would look like this:

No one wants that.
