Let me eat?

Ugh. If you want to injure your soul a bit more, here’s video of Hunter Pence arriving in San Francisco last night. The shot is quite similar to what we saw on CSN locally last summer, when Pence arrived in an SUV in the bowels of CBP. The scene is the same. The location, much different.

Pence was immediately greeted by a blonde, however. So, yeah, he’s going to do just fine in San Fran.

Video after the jump.

Before leaving, Pence spoke with reporters: []

"I had nothing but great memories here in Philadelphia," he said. "I am nothing but thankful for the opportunity to play — unbelievable teammates and really the organization is a class act all the way from the top down. The fans made it an absolute blast to play for, so it was a great experience."

And on Twitter:

He’ll be dining elsewhere now.

UPDATE: Hunter Pence Traded to Giants, According to Reports

Kyle Scott - July 31, 2012

An exclusive shot of the Phillies Nation

According to reports, the Phillies have traded Hunter Pence to the Giants in exchange for minor league catcher Tommy Joseph, 21, who was the Giants' second round pick in the 2009 draft. The Phils may also receive outfielder Nate Schierholtz.

Joseph is a promising prospect who is batting .260 with 8 home runs and 38 RBIs this season in double-A.

It’s the second trade of a Phillies outfielder to the left coast in less than an hour.

The deal is not done, as teams are reportedly waiting one more physical. But it’s done. Pence is gone. The Phillies, purged. The 2012 season, ashes.

UPDATEJerry Crasnick reports that the deal is not done and some issues need to be completed beyond physicals.

UPDATE 2: It's official. Phillies receive Joseph, Schierholtz and Single-A pitcher Seth Rosin. Reported a Fake Hunter Pence Trade Rumor Last Night

Move, move! Gotta get to San Fran!

When so many rumors come flying through the interwebtuals at a high rate of speed, sometimes it can be difficult to keep up. And, unfortunately, it's rather easy to get duped.

So that leads several – likely those who have never seen another human being naked (in person) or people who spent their formative years in a hole similar to the prison in Dark Knight Rises – to create fake Twitter accounts for respected reporters by changing just one letter or using an upper-case I in place of a lower-case l in a Twitter handle (see what l mean?). It’s happened to Jon Heyman, Ken Rosenthal, Jim Salisbury and others, and, when it does, thousands are fooled into thinking their team just pulled off a ridiculous trade. Usually, the media is there to quickly debunk such pranks… but sometimes they, too, fall for the ruse.

Enter, home of the Inquirer and – checks to make sure it still prints – the Daily News.

Last night, on their highest of cheeses blog, they took the baton on a fake Hunter Pence to the Giants trade rumor reported by Ken Rosenthai, ran with it, and dove across the finish line:

Oops. A few poor souls were perplexed at the news:

Their Twitter account quickly backtracked:

Weren't the only ones? No, just the only local paper of record.

We have a good idea who was responsible for the rush to report, but it’s not worth naming names. Everyone makes mistakes. Of course, if, say, a blog were to do this, media types would be all over it, stepping up on their ink-stained soapboxes to slam new media and the rush to be first instead of accurate. They’d sound like Frank Langella’s Richard Nixon and start shouting things like: These blogs always get things wrong. It’s part of their culture. But not newspapers. Look, when you’re working at the paper of record, you got to do a lot of things sometimes that are not always in the strictest sense, accurate, but you do them because they’re in the greater good of the dying business. And what I’m saying is that when does it, that means it’s not illegal.

I actually wrote that whole thing out while using Langella’s Frost/Nixon voice, which, oddly, sounds very similar to my Bane voice. Seriously, just change one inflection and, boom, the masked man. Ah, you think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!

Anyway, all the folks had to do was a quick check of followers on that fake Rosenthal account. They didn’t. They just repeated the news as gospel.

Report: Phillies “Eager” to Trade Hunter Pence

Kyle Scott - July 24, 2012

Here’s a name we haven’t heard too much in trade rumors– Hunter Pence.

Bow-tie man Ken Rosenthal writes the following: [FOX Sports]

The Phillies continue to signal to clubs that they are eager to move right fielder Hunter Pence, who could earn $13 million to $14 million next season in his final year of arbitration.

Pence, 29, is batting .268 with a .789 OPS, 17 homers and 57 RBI. His value could be enhanced by the signings of the San Diego PadresCarlos Quentin and Toronto Blue JaysEdwin Encarnacion and their respective removals from the trade market. But few teams are willing to assume high salaries and part with significant prospects.

Trading Pence, who is in the prime of his career and under the Phillies’ control next season, would, to me, symbolize a rebuilding effort a bit more extensive than previously thought. As we’re seeing now, Pence is a very valuable player when guys like Chase Utley and Ryan Howard are hitting around him.

GIF Hunter Pence Truck Sticks Juan Samuel

Kyle Scott - July 8, 2012

In what has to be some sort of symbolism for the Phillies not being able to get out of their own way this season, here’s a .GIF of Hunter Pence knocking over Juan Samuel as he awkwardly ambled toward home in the second inning of the Phils’ 351st loss of the season.

Hunter Pence Continues His Affinity For Blondes

Hunter’s new girlfriend, via HughE Dillon

A trifecta! Hunter has hit the trifecta (and probably then some)!

When Pence arrived in Philly, he was dating former Houston Texans cheerleader Lindsay Slott. Chronicled here.

Then, following a reported meeting at Cole Hamels’ Diamonds and Denim and water bottle in the pants event last year, Pence began dating local playmate Shannon James. They went to Cabo together, as chronicled here.

Now, our friend HughE (that’s a capital E, gents) Dillon of, sends along the above photo (up top) of Pence and who we now know is his current girlfriend – ready for this name? – Savannah Swetland (pronounced: sweat-land), whom he met in Clearwater.

We think we’ve figured out his type: Southern Belle-looking blondes with big hair and porn star-sounding names. In other words, anyone from The Hills (but sorry, Hunter, Mike Richards has a leg up on you there).

And now we ask you, the sweaty and wet reader on this hot day, who you got?

polls & surveys

PhillyChitChat has more photos of Swetland. Video is after the jump.
